This is simply the best of all basic electronics books. It is easy to understand and will give you a solid background in all areas of basic electronics. There is no wonder why major colleges, trade schools and other learning institutions select this book as their basic electronics textbook. I recommend it highly.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent! A must have in your electronics library.   July 16, 1999

This book is a must have if you are interested in studying electronics. Grob really knows how to expain things. There are chapter summarys and extensive self test. I love this book. It was one of my text books many years ago in college. Some how or another over the years I misplaced it. The price may be a little steephat might sound steep to some but it's really worth it if your serious about educating yourself in the feild of electronics. It also makes a excellent reference for those of us that don't have photographic memories.

Being a retired engineer but still doing research work, found myself in need of refreshment courses. Bernard Grob's book is a magnificent work of printed text, in art, illustrations, composition, academic technology, and up to the state art in electronics. I cannot put it down for another day, it is so well written and beautiful in colored illustrations. It carries you all the way through to three phase generators, electronic devices, circuits, digital electronics, and integrated circuits.

Very clear and precise in instruction, you can't miss the point. The illustrations are a great aid to those with short span retention memories. A great book for college, and reference for those of us having to review late in life. Worth more than its present price.

I'm using this book as a self-study guide. It really starts from the basic assuming that you know nothing. I bought a locally printed edition of this book which costs US$20 which have an uglier cover, and I think it's worth more than that.

You might need to struggle with it at first, but it's really worth it.

5 out of 5 stars the best for basic electroincs   December 25, 2002

I am fairly new to electronics and wanted to get a book that would provide a solid learning foundation. After thumbing through a lot of books I settled on this one, which was ultimately an easy choice. Everything seems to be here that the beginner would need to develop an excellent understanding of the basics of electronics. The layout is in classic textbook form with plenty of illustrations, examples and problems to work. All of which combine nicely with the text to provide a very easy to understand format, more so then many other books on the topic I have seen (Electronics Fundamentals: Circuits, Devices, and Applications by Thomas L. Floyd, seems to be equally as well done, which was a close second in my choice for a beginner's book. It's also worth checking out). As a beginner, this book has done an excellant job of providing everything I wanted in a basic electronic book for newbies. This book is on the expensive side, but typical for a textbook. What this book gives in return is well worth the price of admission. I was definetly happy with the purchase and would buy it again if something where to happen to it.

Although I have not had a chance to see Grub's supplement books yet (Problems in Grob Basic Electronics, Experiments in Grob Basic Electronics, and Mathematics for Grob Basic Electronics), I am sure they would complement this book very well. Especially if this book is any indication of the quality of his companion material.

In closing, I can't recommend this book highly enough for the beginner.
