| Customer Reviews: Excellent guide June 17, 2000 Kentucky Reviewer (Louisville, KY) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I've found this to be a very helpful guide for writing performance evals. It's particularly geared to military and gov't service, but definitely has wider application. It excels in giving good lists of "action phrases" and word combinations, not just your basic power words. Definitely worth a few bucks and almost guaranteed to improve the quality of your eval writing skills.
Words and Phrases to paint anyone March 8, 2001 Robert Broadley (Australia) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Whilst Drewry has included a few sections that will appeal specifically to describing the often exemplary and sometimes extreme characteristics of Service Personnel, the majority of this book has application in any situation (hardly surprising since service personnel are employed across all trades and professions under all manner of situations). The book contains a good performance writing guide section: how to put one together, a preparation check list, a do and don't check list, example openings/closes, and complete sample: evaluations, citations, letters of appreciation and awards. The next 300 odd pages (broken down into favourable, neutral and unfavourable) provide a plethora of words, phrases, and clauses that will allow you to pin point and describe exact personal, physical and work ethic traits with frank non-emotive accuracy. Your workers and supervisors will appreciate the colour and accuracy with which this book will help you paint their picture. I 'borrowed' a subordinates book two years ago. Sorry Simon, I vow to return it as soon as my Amazon order is filled.
One of my tools December 21, 2001 Jorge Barbarosa (the back 9) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
When I evaluate people for performance, I incorporate a variety of tools, this is one of them, and depending on the circumstance, requires only a little tailoring to fit the individual, project and work progression. I use several others as well, mostly from military sources.
