Zero stars, if I could. July 7, 2003 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
This book is just a big plug for the author's website, which is as snotty, catty and exclusive as the book. Now that I have looked around online, I have found that much of the information in this book is incorrect, and possibly even damaging to your servicemember's career. There's not much value in this book, unless you are interested in hearing one woman's very narrow experiences. There are better resources out there for those of you who are as confused about the military as I was. I thought I'd be gaining insight to the military life, but now I'm sad that I wasted my money.
A Must Have Reference Book! December 9, 2007 MuscleGirl (Jacksonville, NC) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I read this book when I was getting serious with a Marine. When he proposed, I knew exactly what I was getting into because of this book. Sure it's not 100% accurate, after all, every branch of service is different. However, it provides you with the basic knowledge that you need to survive as a military wife. When I wanted more in-depth information about a specific topic, this book told me where to find it. I still refer to this book and use it as a reference for other spouses. I recommend this for every military wife.
An Incredible and Valuable Resource - Well Written September 11, 2006 C. Harrington (San Juan Capistrano, CA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'm not sure why some of the women are so negative about this book, I found it to be incredibly well written, a fantastic resource and a great way to educate myself on the military. Ms. Leyva uses just the right amount of technical info vs. humor to help you understand what you're in for. I did not find the information to be outdated and believe the book is in it's 8th printing in 3 years, so it must be helping lots of women out there including me. I also found her website: www.cinchouse.com to be fabulous! The most helpful resource on the internet for those whose spouse is in the military. I have used the site extensively as well as the book and highly recommend it to anyone wanting to learn about the military or who is entering it via a spouse. For those women who have given it a bad review, perhaps they have had bad experiences overall and aren't able to seperate emotions from helpful information. In any case - BUY IT! It will make your new life in the military so much easier to adjust to.
Very Helpful! May 12, 2008 Abbea R. Smith (Dayton, OH) This is an amazing book! I had done some research about the army and had joined an online forum, but this book really completes everything I needed to know... Every army wife, girlfriend, and finance needs this book!
Highly recommended book for women new to the military July 22, 2008 M. Wilson (Alcolu, SC) Every woman new to the military should read this book. It covers all of the basics that you will need to know and it explains everything in plain english and not military jargon. This book should be given to every woman\wife entering the military!!!!!
