Product Description After the international success of Abrams The Sea and The Sea Day by Day, Philip Plisson presents his best photographs in Sailors Wisdom: Day by Day.
A master of marine photography and an Official Painter of the French Navy, Plisson presents the sea in all of its diverse moods, states, and colors. Raging and lawless or subsiding complacently, the sea continuously fascinates and bewitches in its many roles, creating and destroying, providing and consuming, charming and provoking. Throughout the year, waves, swells, lighthouses, sails, and boats in oceanic lights will fill the days with dream and escape. With its smaller format and a bounty of extraordinary photographs accompanied by proverbs from sailors, this book is a perfect gift for all seafarers and lovers of the sea.

A great book! July 17, 2008 E. B. M. Post (Leusden, The Netherlands) Sailors" wisdom is a great photobook of high quality (and with a competing price!) Each page let you dream about places where you want to be.
Sailor's Wisdom April 25, 2008 Cliff H. Birtwistle Given as a gift to a client. They raved about it and most enjoyed the quotes.
liked it January 11, 2008 Cihan Polat (GER) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
It is the first time I had such a photo book. I really liked it. However, the location of the photographs are given at the end of the book in an appendix, this makes it diffucult if you wonder where the photo is taken.
An original compendium that would grace any personal, academic, or community library collection January 5, 2008 Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA)
Comprised of 365 full-color photographs taken by maritime photographer Philip Plisson (whose lifetime body of work includes more than 400,000 photographs and forty books), "Sailors' Wisdom: Day By Day" features memorable images combined with sea-centric comments from a diversity of luminaries ranging from Albert Camus, to William Shakespeare, to Francis Bacon, to Herman Melville. Visually depicted are the oceans of the world in all of their diverse moods, states, and colors. From the sea's dream-like tranquility to its capacity for overwhelming violence, to images of waves and swells, to lighthouses, sails, and boats in an oceanic light, "Sailors' Wisdom: Day By Day" is an original compendium that would grace any personal, academic, or community library collection -- and is especially recommended for non-specialist general readers with an interest in the sea and the ships that sail up it.
