Clear picture to understand databases of web documents June 16, 2004 Philip Tse (Hong Kong) The Internet and world-wide-web have been around for more than a decade. In recent years, many researches focus on the processing of web information. This book is published at the right time when new methodologies and techniques are needed to practically build web information system. It gives an overview of the techniques being used to build web information systems. The book is divided into different sections of information modelling, representation, extraction, and mining. In most chapters, both high level concepts and low level details are well covered. The last few chapters describe novel techniques to mine web data. This book is a complementary book suitable for readers who want to understand or build web information system. Readers may enhance their knowledge on issues relating to modelling, representation, extraction, and mining information on the Web. It helps readers in understanding current researches on web information system. In particular, chapter 5 and chapter 6 are suitable for readers with database background. These two chapters describe how XML documents can be stored in object relational database and how subset of concepts can be optimally extracted.
A brilliant Reference May 19, 2004 Ismail Khalil Ibrahim, PhD. (Linz, Austria) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have been teaching and doing research in Web information systems for more than ten years now and really found this book an invaluable resource for both researchers, students and developers working in the field to gain an in-depth understanding of the issues and challenges related to Web information systems. The ten chapters of the book are an excellent overview of the state of the art in Web information systems. The doesn't address only the conceptual phase of the design process but it also covers the technical issues that build the basis for the whole development process. Regarding the broad range of technologies that is covered and explained by giving self explaining examples, this book could be very useful for people who want to get in touch with this area and are looking for a way to get into this topic. This book is extremely useful as the articles are written in a consistent, easy understandable manner and all the examples guide you through the world of Web Information Systems.I highly recommend the book for every one working in the field. Brilliant work !!
