Product Description
Emily s dad is in the military and sometimes he has to leave for months at a time. Emily knows her dad s job is important, but she doesn t want him to leave! Her dad tells her how he copes with his sadness, and he even makes her a paper chain to count down the days of his trip.

Still, Emily is very sad when he leaves. But as each day goes by, it begins to get a little bit easier. Her mom is there to help, and with each link Emily takes down from the paper chain, she is one day closer to her dad s return. When she makes a friend whose dad has also shipped out, she realizes that she is not the only one who feels like she does. They count down the days together and celebrate their fathers return.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars mother's view   October 12, 2008
Deanna B. Harrison
As a mother of a Prowler pilot, I read this book with many tears. I bought it so my son could write a little note in it for his children to read when he is gone. I could tell it was written by someone who was there and could help younger children deal with the separation of their parent.

5 out of 5 stars gentle story of the family of military left behind--   August 15, 2005
Anne E. Roy (between the herbs and lilies)
5 out of 5 found this review helpful

this is a sweet but realistic, gentle story of the child left home-fears, anger at loss of parent, puzzlement, and is handled with good story content and wisdom. I was pleased to give it to my grandson, who sometimes says his Daddy-out at sea- is "sick".
