As a cartographer, you are primarily concerned with the portrayal of cartographic information on topographic maps and map substitutes. This information can be classified in broad categorical groups, such as hydrography, hypsography, lines of communication, urban analysis, miscellaneous cultural features, and vegetation.The best way to thoroughly teach you photographic interpretation would be to show you a photograph of every known type of imagery you would ever find on a photograph. This is impossible to do because the earth is constantly being changed by man and nature. It would also be impractical to assemble a volume of selected photographs dealing with photomapping. We realize that you cannot hope to become an adequate cartographer without some help in the identification of features. This is the primary function of this lesson.
