Product Description

Seasoned novelist Susan Page Davis takes readers on an exciting military adventure where fear meets faith and weakness is exchanged for unexpected strength.

After specialized underwater training, Ensign Rachel Whitney is posted to a remote island in the North Pacific, a tiny scrap of rock guarding a highly classified secret. She could love her new assignment if her commanding officer, Lt. George Hudson, weren’t so obstinate—and a bit distrustful.

Despite George’s first reaction to her presence on the island, Rachel sets out to prove she is perfect for the job. She doesn’t dream of being a heroine or falling in love, but months later, when word leaks out about the prize they are guarding, Rachel and George have few resources besides each other and their faith in God to foil an enemy attack that could endanger all of America.

5 out of 5 stars Frasier Island   April 27, 2008

FRASIER ISLAND is a fast-paced novel that you won't want to put down. Ensign Rachel Whitney gets her dream assignment, being stationed on the secluded island of Frasier. After reading up on the man who will be her C.O., she can't wait to meet the legend, Lt. George Hudson. Her thoughts quickly change when she finds him cold and unapproachable. Both Hudson and Whitney try to ignore the tension between them, while Pierre, the third person in the crew realizes the tension is due to the mutual attraction Hudson and Whitney feel for each other but refuse to admit to.
I loved FRASIER ISLAND. The intrigue and tug-of-war of emotions between the characters made it that I didn't want to put the book down.

Ensign Rachel Whitney is one ambitious woman. She is determined to carve out a sterling career in the navy. Rachel is assigned to a remote island in the Pacific very few people know about. Only two others are stationed here and they are guarding a highly classified secret. Pierre Belanger is looking forward to finishing out his term and going home to be married. George Hudson, the commanding officer doesn't want a woman stationed on the island and he makes no effort to make things easy for her. George has been on Frasier Island longer than anyone else. He knows Rachel is highly trained and efficient, but he still thinks she doesn't belong there. Then someone sells information about the Island and the secret they are guarding isn't a secret anymore. The Island becomes a very dangerous place. An exciting story about a man and woman thrust into a situation that may require them to give their lives serving their country. High Adventure and romance with a strong message of faith. This is Susan Page Davis' best book yet. I strongly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN...   April 15, 2007

Fraiser Island was a fast paced page turner. The story centers around George Hudson and Rachel Whitney. George is on a the very remote Fraiser Island. He is there with Pierre Belanger and Ron Davidson. Ron's assignment on the Island is up and he is being replaced by Rachel.

Rachel and George each have their reasons for being is such a remote location. Dealing with past hurts is a big part of that. Their attraction is instant but each batton-down-the-hatches on their feelings. George is not mean per-say but not overly friendly.

Rachel really tries hard to get in his good graces. She is well trained but not afraid to be female. She and Pierre become very good friends. They have a good time together and Pierre slowly tries to bridge the gap between her and George.

George has not been honost about what they are really guarding. He finally clues her in. There is a lot that happens after this part in the story. You are not sure who the enemy is. There are hints but you keep turning pages to see what happens next.

I agree with the other reviewers that Susan gave us the perfect balance of romance and suspense. And I did love the last chapter. That is worth the whole book. Aaahhhhh!!!!!

The characters and emotions felt very real. She sucked you in on the first page and by the end of the book you've fallen in love with each of them and feel like you were part of their journey.

Get the book! It's a keeper. I can't wait for Finding Marie due out in September. That is Pierre and Marie's story. She turns up missing and Pierre calls on his best friend George.

Great work Susan!

5 out of 5 stars A page turner!   April 13, 2007

Ensign Rachel Whitney is thrilled when she is assigned to Frasier Island, a remote, highly classified naval outpost under the command of the legendary Lieutenant George Hudson. With a burning drive to succeed born out of past trauma, Rachel's quick temper flares when she encounters immediate hostility from her enigmatic commanding officer. Armed with her newly-minted Christian faith, she determines to acquit herself well and attempts to stifle her unwanted attraction to George, in spite of the prickling tension that exisits between them. Unbeknownst to Rachel, George has scars of his own that led him to embrace the isolation offered by the Frasier Island assignment - it was the perfect chance for him to retreat from painful memories and risky relationships. However, when word of the precious secret the Navy guards on Frasier leaks out and hostile forces begin to threaten their lonely outpost, Rachel and George must set aside their differences and learn to trust each other in order to survive.

I began reading Frasier Island with some trepidation -- after all, Dee Henderson set the standard high for military-themed romantic suspense novels with her Uncommon Heroes series. However, Susan Page Davis has proven more than equal to the challenge -- Frasier Island announces Davis's presence in the romantic suspense genre with an explosive bang. She expertly balances the "romance" and "suspense" elements of the story, providing an altogether satisfying read. The plot crackles with suspense, but what kept me turning pages were the well-drawn characters. Rachel and George are so believably real and authentic, their every motivation and reaction credible, that they practically leap living and breathing from the page. Their actions, reactions, and motivations are clearly and realistically established. It's impossible not to become emotionally invested in these two and their budding relationship. Their romance is beautifully told and well-developed. The faith element is, for the most part, incorporated extremely well into narrative. That said, I would have liked seeing a little more of a "pre-Christian" Rachel as I think establishing that groundwork would have added a little welcome depth to her faith journey. But that's a relatively minor caveat in this otherwise fast-paced, enjoyable read. Highly recommended. The sequel, Finding Marie, releases in September.

4 out of 5 stars Fraiser Island should appeal to suspense and romance readers   March 4, 2007

A military suspense set on the remote naval outpost of Frasier Island, Susan Page Davis' new book reminds me very much of one of my favorite suspense authors, Dee Henderson. Like Dee, Susan writes with the perfect balance of suspense, romance, and faith. Both internal and external conflicts kept me eager to turn the next page.

Ensign Rachel Whitney's first assignment is the one she had hoped for--serving under Lieutenant George Hudson on tiny Frasier Island in the North Pacific. Lt. Hudson's reputation is stellar, and Rachel knows she can learn many things from him that will advance her career in the Navy.

George Hudson has his own reasons for choosing to serve on such a remote island. While his assignment has lasted much longer than Navy protocol would normally allow, his exemplary performance and dedication to his country make him the perfect person to guard the highly classified secret hidden on the island.

However, George wasn't expecting a female ensign to replace one of his departing men, so his reaction to Rachel's presence is less than welcoming. But Rachel is determined to show that her skill and competence make her the perfect person for the job. And she relies on her newfound faith in God to help her overcome her quick temper, and to give her the patience and wisdom she needs to persevere--especially when her feelings for her commanding officer become more than she had intended.

When a Navy insider leaks the island's secret, George and Rachel find that they have few resources besides each other and their faith in God to thwart the plans of the enemy.

Susan Paige Davis begins Frasier Island with more internal than external conflict, but this is an asset to the story. By the time the action begins to build, I cared so much about the characters that I could hardly bear to put the book down!

Armchair Interviews says: A perfect blend of suspense and romance, Frasier Island should appeal to fans of both.
