Product Description
Mackenzie Allen Philips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack's world forever. In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant "The Shack" wrestles with the timeless question, "Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?" The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. You'll want everyone you know to read this book!

5 out of 5 stars For those who struggle...   August 21, 2008
Jason Russell (FL, USA)
as I do with the concept of God, of Jesus, of Religion (with a capital R) and with the "Big Questions", I commend this book. Approach it with an open mind and an open heart. Question what it says and see where those questions lead you.

I approached this book with little to no expectations and where possible, I would hope anyone planning on reading the book would do the same. That being said, as I read further and further into the book I realized that I was looking for answers to questions I've long been unable to answer or to questions whose answers I've found inadequate. I won't say that I found answers within this book, but I certainly did find new points of view from which to view the questions I had been asking as well new questions to ponder.

I have since passed on my copy to a friend at work and sent to copies to family members...something I have never done with any other book. Even now, one day after finishing the book, I look forward to receiving it back after it makes its rounds so that I may read, and question, all over again.

4 out of 5 stars A Fable of God's Love   August 21, 2008
Alison M. Dingley (The Dalles Oregon)
The Shack is a wonderful fable of the steps involved in healing from trauma and loss in the context of the God's gracious love. It is theologically thoughtful, even profound. It also touches the heart.

5 out of 5 stars Don't wait! Read this book NOW!   August 21, 2008
Natalie Allen (memphis, tn)
If you only read one book this year, let it be The Shack! If you are turned off by religion/s, if you have some pain/brokenness that you need to work through, but can't quite muster up the courage, this is the book for you! God is using this book in unbelievable ways. Don't pass this one by...and you should buy 2 copies b/c you'll want to share it with others.

5 out of 5 stars A Must Read   August 21, 2008
Leah Weiss
What a wonderful book! It answers all the hard questions from forgiveness to why there is such hate and bad in the world. I absolutely loved this book and will tell everyone to read.

1 out of 5 stars Concerned   August 21, 2008
Sharyn Oliver (Orlando, FL)
I read the book and was troubled throughout because of the twist on some theology. What readers should understand is it is a work of FICTION by one man. I hope more who read it will then reread many parts of the Bible, and keep the Bible as the authority, not one man's opinion. What concerns me even more, is how many can read this book and change how they believe or relate to God/Jesus and not base it on the authority of the Bible. If many remember, the DaVinci Code was also a work of fiction, and yet so many take it for fact. In my quest for Christian fiction I will stick with Francine Rivers and Frank Peretti. For Christian non-fiction I will read and reread Max Lucado and Charles Stanley. For my walk with Christ I will always stick with the Bible as the standard by which everything else is measured.
