Product Description Innovation, claims quality consultant Subir Chowdhury, is part of America’s DNA. No other country in the world matches America’s creative drive and its ability to turn innovative ideas into revolutionary products–from antilock brakes and steel-belted radial tires to sophisticated software and microprocessors. But as fast as we introduce new products, we lose the markets we establish to countries that know how to manufacture higher quality versions for less money. As Japanese and European firms win market share by concentrating on quality, America is continually forced to rely on innovation to stay ahead.
In The Ice Cream Maker, Chowdhury uses a simple story to illustrate how businesses can instill quality into our culture and into every product we design, build, and market. The protagonist of the story is Peter Delvecchio, the manager of a regional ice cream company, who is determined to sell its ice cream to a flourishing national grocery chain, Natural Foods. In conversations with the Natural Foods manager, Peter learns how the extraordinarily successful retailer achieves its renowned high standard of excellence, both in the services it provides its customers and in the foods it manufactures and sells. Quality, he discovers, must be the mission of every employee; by learning to listen, enrich, and optimize, he can encourage and sustain the highest levels of quality in everything the company does.
Like Fish! and Who Moved My Cheese? The Ice Cream Maker offers an essential and universal lesson about one of industry's foremost challenges in a thoroughly engaging style. For managers and executives, small business owners and entrepreneurs, The Ice Cream Maker is a compelling, eye-opening guide to the most effective ways to achieve excellence and become industry leaders on the global stage.

Great Concepts to Support a Lean Journey August 4, 2008 Mark Graban (Keller TX) This was a very quick read and an enjoyable one (a single flight kind of book). This book does a great job of illustrating the power of employee involvement and how managers need to start listening instead of just barking orders. This would be a perfect "soft" companion book to any Lean journey that has been focused on "hard" tools and technical methods. Unlike many other business novels, including "The Goal" (which I blame for this trend), there is thankfully no tacked on love story or drama between the protagonist and his wife. My only problem with the book is the somewhat ham-handed "of course this is going to have a happy ending" writing style. Everything works out just a bit too perfectly in the end. A longer book might have been more beneficial if it really delved into some of the realistic challenges that could have come up in the "Dairy Cream" company scenario -- both from employees AND from top management. But I will definitely recommend this book to others.

This book was so well presented that I bought several to give away to people that I work with. An inspiring story about how to bake greatness into everything that we do. Not only does this book apply to business, but can be used in family, church and all other facets of life. I would highly recommend this quick read for anyone regardless of whether you are leading or following.

I received the book on time and was in great conditions as it was decribed at Amazon. I really happy with the service that amazon provides, since most of the things I bought from them were in the conditions that Amazon said they were, and I really like the companies that don not lie to theit customers!

I think this is a good book with general ideas and concepts that most working in management understand but might need help with examples. It is an easy read and amusing at points. Overall its a great add to your collection.
