Matt befriends Bobby, a frail and fatherless eight-year-old powder monkey. Together they face the wrath of McElroy, illnesses, storms at sea, and finally a climactic sea battle. During the battle and in its aftermath, Matt overcomes some of life's most difficult challenges. Through all of this, Matt's character is remolded as he makes his passage from boyhood to manhood.

What a story, not just a journey at sea but the journey from a boy to a man. It was like being there. If you like adventure your going to love this book. I am going to read this book again and again and so will you!

I have just finished reading Mr. Troncale's first work. It was extremely well done. It is packed with historical information as well as life lessons, yet it draws the reader in with the exciting story. As a parent I can safely say that this is the type of book that all young people should read.
