Horrible August 16, 2008 Donald A. Wykstra (Boston, MA) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
They didn't even ship my book for two weeks and then it took 6 days to get it after being shipped. Books are supposed to be shipped within 2-3 business days. This company's response time is lacking in professionalism and proper business practice. I will never order from them again.

I finally broke down and bought the new edition. I'm glad I did. This book should be required reading for all CPO's
OK but..... January 2, 2007 J. Ramsey (Jazzland, VA) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This book is OK, it has a lot of useful info however more than half of the book is on uniforms. Since the Navy is revamping all the uniforms I fear that this book will become obsolete. I think that the uniform section was wasted and should have been used for something more about......maybe....LEADERSHIP! The uniform section is basically just a carbon copy of the uniform regs.
For the New CPO but good for the new MBA. September 9, 2004 John Matlock (Winnemucca, NV) 12 out of 15 found this review helpful
The Chief Petty Officer is the backbone of the Navy. The officers provide overall direction, and the sailors make the ships go. In between is the CPO who takes the commands from the officers and converts it into something that the individual sailors can do. As such, the CPO is in a leadership position without which nothing would happen. It is no surprise then that the sections of this book deal with leadership: Leading, Communication, Developing, and Supporting. The Navy approach is different. In industry you wouldn't find foremen in a factory with a specific responsibility for developing young executives. But in the Navy the CPO had a direct responsibility for developing the junior officers who are above him. This is a low price book that I'd recommend to the recent MBA graduate, just as I would to the new CPO learning his job.
