Product Description You’ll tire of hearing “Where did you get that bag?”
Simply Sublime Bags offers the secrets to creating four-figure-price-tag-worthy bags. And most of them only take an afternoon! Whether it’s a casual carryall or a ritzy, patent leather clutch, the envy of your friends is only a few hours away.
Why break the bank for a designer bag when you can easily make your own unique fashion statement? In Simply Sublime Bags, you’ll find 30 do-it-yourself, clever and affordable handbag projects—all of which require little to no sewing. With inventive methods of construction (like duct-taped reinforced interiors and iron fusing), these hip handbags, totes, and clutches have all the looks that bag-lovers want—the shine of patent leather, Chanel-style chain straps, or even funky logos—and each can be personalized to your own taste. The materials are easy to find in hardware, home, office supply, and fabric stores—sometimes even in your own closet!
Bags include: • Charmed, I’m Sure—brightly colored vinyl makeup bags with vintage plastic charm zipper pulls • Keyhole Clutch—pink-and-white houndstooth fabric lined with duct tape, with keyhole cutouts for handles • Shower Curtain Tote—you guessed it, a funky fabric tote made from a shower curtain • Nights in Black Satin—an elegant evening clutch made from satin ribbon stapled together and adorned with a rhinestone earring clasp
Day to evening, totes to clutches, and everything in between, Simply Sublime Bags has something for every occasion. The results? Simply sublime!

Fun and sophisticated, even if you're all thumbs October 7, 2008 J Simpson (Larchmont, NY United States) I attended a class Jodi taught making some of these bags (and I've bought the book) and I want to tell you that even if you're not crafty or artistic, you can get great-looking results--and have fun! Who has time to knit and sew? But stapling I can handle! The secret is the great materials Jodi uses, and she's really thought through, and clearly explained, the process so anyone can follow it--even me! The class, with lots of working moms, was fun and therapeutic--I think it would make a fun pre-teen birthday party, or alternative to a book group.
If she was on Martha... October 6, 2008 PeggyFowler (Portland, OR) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
OK, I am giving her 5 stars even though I have not seen her book yet. BUT I did see her just now on "Martha" and if she explains in the book as well as she did on the show, then I want this book and will be putting in my next order from Amazon. These bags are easy-squeasy! Here in oregon, we are known for being environmentally concerned. That said, most grocery stores are going away from those awful plastic bags that clog up our landfill and have a shelf-life of 2,000 years. Using nice handled, reuseable bags is THE way to go and I plan to make several of Jodi's bags for gifts and for my own use for grocery shopping. Jodi's directions were super (on the show) and the design is basic. I could see Den Mothers/Leaders using this as a great Girl Scout or Boy Scout craft project idea. Or me and my friends sitting around making these in a group while discussing the latest things going on in our lives. Fun!!
Darling and Creative September 16, 2008 Serena 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I had the pleasure of meeting Jodi at the Country Living Fair in Ohio and got a preview of this book. I love that the bags are simple, yet so creative. The illustrations are well done and easy to understand and the photography is wonderful. This is such a fun book.
easy projects September 8, 2008 D. L. Palumbo eager to start projects to use for Christmas presents, etc. some look quite easy, others more complicated but there is so much in it.
Somewhat disappointing... August 30, 2008 BJG 9 out of 14 found this review helpful
I wish I'd paid more attention to the subtitle of this books ("No-Sew, Low-Sew") and read the other Amazon reviewers before buying this book. While there are some unique bags in this book, NOTHING assembled with duct tape and staples is "four-figure-price-tag-worthy" as the product description suggests. I make and sell bags and was looking for some different patterns. This book does have bags that are different, but they're not sellable to the market I'm trying to reach. This book would be a great high-school project book, but otherwise, it's a bust. The bags made from placemats and the ones made from fabric shower curtains and pillow cases are the only noteworthy bags. The rest just seem disposable because of the construction materials.
