one non-expert's opinion July 28, 2008 R. O'Connor (Washington, DC) Circuit City's Firedog team recommended these and after a lot of research I had them installed this weekend. They rock! I have two of them as my front left and right speakers and a third as the center channel (leaving a fourth not being used, unfortunately) and am extremely pleased with the sound they produce. I combined them with a 150 watt Boston Acoustic sub, and two Polk in-ceiling speakers, using a Denon 888, and popped in Saving Private Ryan and felt like I was storming the beach at Normandy. I can't give the technical specifics of why they sound so good, I just know that my dog got out of the room from the explosions and bullets. Got a great deal through Amazon with free shipping and they got here in two days. Everything was great. I highly recommend these.
Square is great. Round is better. June 18, 2008 M. Johnson (Texas Y'all!) I just ordered my second pair of square RC65i Polk speakers. They are really good speakers for the price. Especially Amazon's price. I paid $249 for my first pair at a big name retailer locally. I went with the square 65i's because they fit my application better and looked better in my media room, but the round Polk speakers, like the RC60i's are actually a better speaker. The sound and components of the round RC60i's are just a bit better and provide a better overall audio experience (just compare them side by side at any store and you'll hear the difference). But having said that, ALL Polk speakers are great. I have enjoyed my RC65i's. They install easily with simple wire stripping and insert type install. The speakers clips easily clamp onto the wall and the provided wall cut-outs make installing easy. But I do agree with one of the other reviews that said they are a bit more difficult to remove. If you unscrew the clip screws just a bit too much then the clips fall off and are difficult to reinstall. But as for sound quality and over manufacturing quality, you just can't beat Polk. So if you have no space or design conflicts, I would go with the round RC60i or RC80i's (just a size difference). If not, then these RC65i's are a great deal.
Great sound for the size/price. June 9, 2008 F. Butler (Not Quite at Sea) We just completed a kitchen renovation, which included ceiling speakers tied into the home theater system. The main system has Klipsh Ref Series 5's, which do a tremendous job no matter what type of music you push to them. The Polks in the kitchen sound rich, crisp, and full. For the money, these are just great speakers, period. Lob
Perfect ceiling speakers at a bargain price. June 7, 2008 ColoradoWest (Parker, CO) No one had these speakers cheaper than Amazon and we needed ceiling speakers for 3 bedrooms wired for audio from a central source. We bought 3 pair and couldn't be more pleased. Had to paint the paint-ready grills and speaker edges from their "dark" white color to the ceiling white, but that was also real easy as the speakers come w/ templates that perfectly cover the actual parts you don't want to paint. They sound great, but are a little "underdriven" by our relatively weak amplifier/receiver. That's good news for folks w/ stronger receivers! I also do not find a problem w/ absence of bass as some reviews have noted. Sure bass is lacking...they aren't subwoofers! We have no problems hearing the bass from these speakers. Along w/ the impedence matching volume controls in each bedroom, the whole setup is superb. FYI...we got our volume controls from MCM Electronics...fantastic price ($29.95 each) white slider controls w/ impedence matching...there aren't any this good and this cheap anywhere on Amazon. Check MCM for a HUGE selection of volume controls!
Great Speakers June 6, 2008 Roger C. Fell (Wayne, PA USA) These speakers sound great and were easy to install. Great vailue for the $$$.
