5 out of 5 stars Nice Sub!   September 28, 2008
M (CA, USA)
It took me years to get a sub, so I did a lot of searching. Amazon's price was great when I bought it. For some reason the price has skyrocketed here. I think someone realized what a great value it was and upped the price to reflect the quality of it.

Bass is clean and crisp. It took sometime to adjust the little volume know at the back to complement the music and different volumes and NOT drown out the speakers. I don't know what one of the reviewers was talking about when he mentioned the volume level was low. It can get loud enough listening to music at a low volume when you crank up the volume knob to get my roommates to complain about it. Did he know about the volume knob? It's hidden in the back near the power switch. The low end is nice and low. I put a song in there that had an intro that played frequencies down to 20Hz. It handled them all the way down to the advertised 25Hz with gusto. After that the Sub drops off quickly. Maybe there's a market for Sub-Subs.

The thing is built solid like a sub should be. The front grill not shown in the picture is curved, tastefully grey and looks very nice, and fits snug. It has a very cool looking checkerboard pattern in the front and the black wood's finish looks great. It's just too bad it's hidden under my furniture.

I have absolutely zero complaints about this unit. I just wish I could turn it up more often, but my roommates wouldn't like the bass rumbling through the house. When I first got it I had the bass higher and when I'd turn up my receiver a bit too much you could hear and feel the bass all the way in the kitchen which is down the hall and through the foyer.

Again I don't know how I got it so cheap. I think it was on sale at the time

5 out of 5 stars Great Buy!   August 21, 2008

We got this JBL to replace an umderperforming 150-watt (yeah, right) Sony SA-WM500. We have a 7.1 setup, and right away the entire home theatre sounded great! We'd actually like to get another one for our bedroom setup.
My SO was always complaining about missing dialogue with the Sony Center speaker... that stopped as soon as this baby was hooked up. LFEs sound deep without being boomy. The Sony SA-WM500 made many LFEs sound like flatulence.
When we upgrade our living-room HD in a few months, I think we'll go with an all-JBL home-theater setup.

5 out of 5 stars Best home sub I've ever owned.   July 25, 2008
Anarchist8 (California)
Recived mine yesterday. Product exceeded my expectations. Ive owned crappy cheap subs before like radio shack ones and 'home theater in a box' packages so I had no clue what a real sub was soposed to sound like. I have a sony mini system that came with a sub and it had a sticker on the stereo sayin that it had like 530 total watts so I thought it would sound great. In reality the sub that came with it sounded cheap and crappy. I bought this sub mainly because of the price: $200.00 is what I paid for mine. Anywayz I hook it up to my cheap sony mini system that has a sub output and I was amazed by the low frequencys it could reach. I poped a d.v.d. in and was watchin previews. The ceeling started to creak and resonate and the windows rattled. I set the frequancy response to '20' and turned the amp all the way up (which is how I usually set my subs up).
So yea its great, it can reach the lows that I thought were only possible at the theater. Clean, non distorted sound........ just awsome. If you have like a medium or small room this sub is all you need. If you have a large living room I might suggest the 1200 watt model, but I'm compleatly satisfied with this one.

5 out of 5 stars JBL SUB12   July 23, 2008
T. Kravjanski (Vancouver, BC)
I purchased thi unit to replace a 10" Yamaha unit that I had for 8 years. I was looking for a unit that would have deeper, stronger bass for movies and music. Setting this unit up was easy and was up and running in minutes. The controls are simple, volume and frequency cutoff. Once adjusted this unit worked very well. Strong clear bass without distortion. Extremely good sound. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to upgrade.
