Amazon.com Product Review The First Alert FERC-400 Event Color Camera and VCR Controller is a simple, complete, and upgradeable solution for remote monitoring and recording of video and audio. The FERC-400 VCR-controller starts and stops your VCR recording automatically, while the color camera allows motion-triggered recording with a date and time stamp. Simple to set-up and operate via an on-screen menu, the First Alert FERC-400 is perfect when you require a low-cost, 24-hour, complete security-surveillance of a room, entrance, or other area in your home or business. Utilizing a 0.33-inch color CMOS (complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor) image sensor, the First Alert FERC-400's camera includes a 4.3mm wide-angle lens and delivers a decent resolution of 330 horizontal TVL (TV lines). This camera has a minimum illumination of five Lux allowing it to receive a picture in moderate-light conditions. This unit includes a two-way audio connection that allows it to act as an intercom between camera and controller, and allows you to change lenses for various applications. The First Alert FERC-400 VCR-controller allows you to connect up to four cameras simultaneously, and includes an automatic channel-switching function. This controller features a built-in microphone, a five-second alarm buzzer, and an adjustable auto-recording time ranging from one- to 60-seconds. Both the First Alert FERC-400 VCR-controller and camera run on 12-volt DC power, while the camera has an operating temperature of -15 to 60-degrees Celsius. Technical Features: - Light sensitivity: minimum illumination of 5 Lux
- Resolution: 330 horizontal TVL
- Camera operating temperature: -15 to 60-degrees C
- Camera dimensions: 0.75 x 3.5 x 0.75 inches (W x D x H)
- Controller dimensions: 2 x 5.5 x 4 inches (W x D x H)
Designed for primarily indoor use, the First Alert FERC-400 camera and VCR-controller system deserves serious consideration as one of the most user-friendly, complete, and cost-effective monitoring solutions for small- to medium-sized applications. The First Alert FERC-400's camera is easy to use and install, and includes a 60-foot connection cable that allows you to place it virtually anywhere. User's should note that the CMOS image sensor in the camera may become permanently damaged if exposed to long hours of direct sunlight or halogen light, so the camera should not be mounted or pointed directly at the sun or other bright-light sources. About Surveillance Camera Technical Features Lux rating is the measurement used to indicate how sensitive a camera is to light, and stands for the level of light reflected off a piece of paper by a candle from one meter away. Thus a sensitivity of three Lux would mean a camera could generate an acceptable picture of a piece-of-paper-sized object that was illuminated by the equivalent of three candles from one meter away. The lower the Lux level, the better the camera's ability to work in low-light conditions. The camera's resolution should be greater than or equal to the resolution supported by the system's recorder or monitor. The S/N, or signal to noise ratio, is an important measure of a camera's quality. A poor camera, low-light conditions or poor wiring causes "noise" which consumes processing power and disk space. A camera with a wide dynamic range is ideal, especially for recording areas in which both indoor and outdoor light are present. CCD (charge-coupled device) sensors provide high-quality images that are less susceptible to noise. CMOS (complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor) sensors offer less image quality, but are usually more cost-effective and energy efficient. What's in the Box Recording controller, camera, AC/DC adapter, cable (60 feet), A/V cable, and manual.
