simple, effective September 17, 2008 36ophiuchi (Mill Valley, California United States) works fine. wish it were made out of metal though. the plastic feels a little cheap. the inside of the hood is coated with a nice matte fuzzy material to avoid reflecting light; a really nice touch.
As vital a protective accessory as a wide brim hat on a sunny day August 28, 2008 PJ (GTA, Canada) The 50mm f/1.4's front element is already deeply recessed which is most likely why the lens is more flare resistant than other 50mm lenses. This O.E.M. hood is the only well-fitting accessory necessary to 'complete' this lens. Since I don't like to reverse the hood during storage, removing the 58mm lens cap is tricky with my large thumb and index finger. Canon provides the hood for all of their L lenses. It only makes sense to buy a hood for all non-L lenses you own. It is as vital a protective accessory as a wide brim hat on a sunny day.
Necessary accessory for 50 f1.4 lens July 31, 2008 M. ANNE (california) This Canon lens is well fitted to the 50 1.4. The interior has a matte surface and stops reflections. Although it is on the expensive side, I have bought the off-brand lens hoods and by the time you pay shipping from China you don't save that much. Often they don't fit right, and the one I bought let light in on the sides! Definitely not worth even half the price of the Canon. Although it seems expensive, the hood protects your valuable lens from damage as well as blocking that light and ruining your pictures and they pretty well last the lifetime of the lens.
A must July 25, 2008 A. Gonzalez Arquieta Any professional photographer will tell you that a lens hood not only protects the lens but also improves contrast and color sauturation in your pictures. It costs so little compared to the camera that it's a no brainer to have one.
Savior June 19, 2008 Gina U. Jeong (fullerton, ca usa) I just bought this lens hood and I dropped my camera and it took the blunt of the damage! absolutely no damage at all on my camera or the lens.
