Works great October 5, 2008 Mark Plueger Works as advertised and very easy to set up. I had no problem having it in the same outlet as my surge protector. Tried using it plugged into my surge but it wouldn't work. Very happy with the product.
Yes they work, but... August 25, 2008 Daniel S. Boucher (Portland, ME) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
They work as intended, and through a surge supression unit (at least for me anyways). If you don't want to run data, then these are actually -- quite effective. In fact, the only reason I rated them 3 stars is because of the price. Let's be honest, it you dont want to run data, you can setup a new wireless N device at home for the same amount of money, if not less. With the wireless technology, you're not limited to s single device either. However, having said that, for the average person who just wants to plug on their XBox or has a single computer that is not near their high-speed modem, this this is a viable solution. Simply plug them in and violla, you're networked! It also comes with a CD to setup encryption, for those of you that a paranoid enough to take the time to read about it, but I did not use the encryption. Pros: Easy setup, networking simplified and offers security. Cons: Pricy, very. Wireless might be a better solution.
Works like a charm. August 21, 2008 Jesse D. Watson (North Dakota) Installation couldn't be simpler. Plug in one unit where your aparatus needing internet connectivity is located, plug in the other unit where your internet access comes from (near your router, usually). It works as well as a wired internet connection. The only downside, really, is the price. Can't you just buy a wireless router and the necessary hardware for around the same price? And that might end up being more useful to you overall. But if you can't, or if it somehow won't work for you, or, for instance, you don't want to pay Microsoft's ripoff price for their wireless adapter (that should have been built into the 360 anyway), you won't be disappointed with this product. I also should make note that the unit can't be plugged into a power strip, usually needs to be plugged directly into the wall, and not only that, it's rather large. I got pretty ticked off trying to find the right way to plug everything in, not because it's hard but just because it was a matter of logistics and moving things around. Problems and price aside, and fitting your specific needs, this is easy to recommend.
Easy to set up and does what it should! July 17, 2008 Karen Bierman Hirsh (White Plains, NY United States) When I first saw this product on my vine page I was not 100% sure what it was supposed to do but I thought it even tho it said it worked on connecting gaming systems wirelessly to your router that it might work with setting our computer network up as we had one computer that would just not work with our current router. My husband was the one to hook the kit up and within minutes it was pulg and play! He was deliriously thrilled that it solved the nagging problem we were having keeping my son's computer connected to the network as the router kept dropping it and would not allow it to print but since we have set up the Actiontec we have not had a single problem. The set-up was quick and simple - even non-tech minded people could work with this product and get the desired results. If it works this well with my computer system I can only imagine how well it would work with a gaming system. I highly recommend this product - just know the plugs can be a bit bulky so make sure you have the space in your outlets.
Could not get them to work July 15, 2008 Brian P. Hudson (Dearborn, MI) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Maybe these just don't work with wiring in older houses, but I could not for the life of me get these to work! The right lights were on, the router was ready, and the settings adjusted ... but my remote computer just couldn't see the network. Perhaps if the included documentation had been a little more robust (or the website, which added almost nothing to the package booklet) I could have solved my problem. As it is, i will be giving these to my father in law; perhaps they will serve his networking needs better than they did mine.
