Customer Reviews:
Northstar 557 June 22, 2008 Christopher M. Sacco (Maryland) Found product to be useless with the base map. Frequently have to perform resets. Installed C-MAP NT MAX Wide maps and found detail to be excellent, but maps cost another $200. The display is exceptionally bright and the detail is outstanding. Night mode is effective but you must turn intensity down as well as changing color pallette or night vision will suffer. Packed with features, you'd be hard pressed to find a similarly capable GPS for the same money. My biggest complaint has been with the update rate. The screen has to "repaint" frequently and it's not as seemless I'd I'd like, but still something you can live with. Overall impressive unit, but I have had issues with customer service. Their technical support folks didn't seem to really know their products. This one may last for years, but I don't think I'll be looking for another Northstar to replace it when the time comes.
