Almost awesome October 1, 2008 MS (Atlanta GA) I have had 5 of these phones. I have gone through dozens of headsets trying to find one that works. This review is after using these for 1.5 years plus. Pros: No cords to the headset You do not need to carry the handset with you while using the headset The base / transmitter can be plugged in close to the phone jack - i.e. you do not have to run a phone cable to your desk, and the charging unit can be somewhere else. Range is very good - I start to get static new the mailbox (transmitter is at the back of the house) Microphone is awesome - it has automatic gain control meaning people can actually hear you when you speak. You can buy more than one of these and they do not interfere with each other. Battery life on the headset is pretty good - estimate is around 4-5 hours. Not enough if you are on the phone for 8 hours, but pretty good, and charges back up pretty fast. Comfort - you can wear this thing all day Cons: Reliability - I had 2 fail in the warranty period, and another one defective out of the box. Thomson replaced without too much difficulty. I still use them for the reasons above.
Nice idea but model needs refining September 12, 2008 Adegbemisola Adesemowo (Bayonne, NJ) I bought my first RCA VisYS last year. The main attraction being the wireless headset. After about 6 or 8 weeks, the headset spontaneously stopped working. I called thompson electronics and they asked me to return it for a free replacement which I did but that stopped working after a couple of months as well. Thompson gave another free replacement and I have had the my current phone for about 5 months now and so far the headset still works. However, at least once a day, the phone literally dies sometimes it shows an'Initialization' message and sometimes it just goes blank. When that happens it wouldn't work unless it is placed back in its cradle for a minute or two. Very bizarre. I absolutely love the wireless headset. It is such a help to have your 2 hands free when you're on the phone but this particular model needs tuning. It was the cheapest one i could find with the wireless headset so i guess 'I got what i paid for'.
Customer Service/Warranty NIGHTMARE... Although the phone was great... when it worked September 4, 2008 E. Siemer 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this phone in September 2007, and immediately LOVED it. It was so nice to not have a cord to snag on door handles, etc. HOWEVER, the headset (after all, the whole reason I bought this phone in the first place) gave up the ghost unexpectedly around May 2008. I got around to shipping it back to RCA/Thomson/ATLinks at the beginning of July, and was told it would be 4-6 weeks for a replacement. (WARNING: The address on their warranty document is INCORRECT - call them to get the correct address BEFORE you ship, or you may get your package back. I'm thankful I found this out before I myself shipped.) Frustrating, but I hoped I had just gotten a dud, and was willing to wait. At the end of August, 7 weeks after the phone left my possession, I called to get the status, and was told that there was some sort of "shake-up" within Thomson, and I was to get a new replacement, but was to wait another 4-6 weeks for it! As of today, I have been without the phone for 9 weeks, and am again told that it will be another 2-3 weeks until I receive my replacement. As I have very little faith in that time estimate, I have turned to the Better Business Bureau in Indianapolis (where RCA/Thomson/ATLinks is based) to help resolve this. AVOID the hassle and buy Plantronics, as I have in the past! Shame on me for switching brands when the only reason my Plantronics went kaput was because I used and abused the heck out of it! It was great! If only they'd make a wireless headset phone.... Wait! They do!
