Amazon.com Product Description In addition to capturing stereo sound from meetings, interviews, and important lectures, the Olympus DS-30 Digital Voice Recorder allows you to download and create Podcasts for later listening. The DS-30 offers users up to 68 hours of recording time with its 256 MB worth of internal flash memory. For easy organization and storing of files, the player allows users to set up five voice folders, and each folder can save up to 200 messages. Internal files can be easily navigated on the player's high-contrast backlit monochrome LCD panel. Other great features include a built-in variable control voice actuator (VCVA) function, and a timed recording and alarm feature so you can set up automatic recording and playing. Running on two AAA batteries, the player offers up to 30 hours of continuous playback in the following modes: ST XQ mode (4 hour 10 minute capture time), ST HQ mode (8 hour 30 minute capture time), HQ mode (17 hour capture time), SP mode (33 hour 30 minute capture time), and LP mode (66 hour 40 minute capture time). For added user convenience, an optional AC adapter can be used with the recorder. Compatible with Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional operating systems and later, the player measures a pocket-friendly 4.37 x 1.48 x 0.63 inches and weighs in at a scant 2.80 ounces. What's in the Box DS-30 digital voice recorder, stereo microphone, USB cables, stereo earphones, DSS Player v.7 software, instruction manual, strap, and two AAA batteries.

So far so good August 15, 2008 Tim Davidson (Cape Cod Bay) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have used this recoreder twice with somewhat different results. The first time the sound reproduction when played back was as expected and good. The second recording seemed to have a problem with playback speed, that is, it seemed to be too slow and reproducing voices lower. I have more to learn I think about this issue.
Great Product July 29, 2008 R. Hengtrakool (Phoenix,AZ) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This voice recorder is great. the sound quality is fantastic and the price is fair. I use camtasia to record the video and use this recorder for the audio. The sound is clear enough to make DVD tutorial.

Excellent sound quality! I bought it so my husband can take messages while driving, rather than trying to write them down, and steering with his knees!
Good one for learning music or language July 7, 2008 Shreedhar M. K. 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
It is a best product in the DS- series of Olympics. The product is value for money and its completely stuffed with features. Though, the audio quality is not excellent, it can be good device for a audio based learner to have. Hav fun Shreedhar
Blown away by the sound quality! July 7, 2008 E. Kim (Houston, TX United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am really blown away by the sound quality of these Olympus Digital Voice Recorders. This is my second one; I previously owned the VN2100 but decided to upgrade (see my review for the VN2100). Pretty intuitive functions/buttons/menus, and my experience with the battery life has been good. Like all Olympus digital recorders, the SP and LP quality recording modes are pretty bad. (If it's a loud lecturer or close-to-mouth dictation, you don't have to worry much, just a bit gritty sounding.) To get a decent smooth-sounding recording you need to record in HQ or XHQ, which takes up a lot more memory, and thus leaves you with less room on the recorder time-wise. Would be annoying except with this model you can download your files to your computer and free up space on the device. Another feature of this model is that is has a removable stereo microphone in case you don't want mono recording. It's really not necessary for lectures or dictation, but can provide a really nice, super-high quality stereo recording if you want. I'm extremely pleased with my purchase. My only pseudo complaint/criticism is that it is not as attractive as the VN2100 or some of the other models. Nevertheless, this is a fantastic product that is well worth the money.
