cheap and good August 28, 2008 Arthur Grueneberger (Sacramento, CA United States) I own several light stands as I use them to hold up my touring puppet stages. This one seems as good as several of the $80-100 stands I've purchased. I'm curious to see how it holds up to touring. It has a strange spring mech. that causes the ends to pop out a few inches. I'm not sure what the purpose of this is and it doesn't realy bother me, I just haven't seen it before.
Great affordable light stand July 15, 2008 Mark Rogers (Portland, OR USA) Great price on a stand that does just what it should. If you're not using anything too heavy, this is just the ticket. Stable enough for a strobe and umbrella, large soft boxes not so much...
Lite Stand June 15, 2008 J. Key 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Does what it is supposed to do. Packs with my tripod. Holds a Nikon 600 easily. Very easy to setup and pack away. Would buy again if I needed another.
Solid stand - not so compact May 30, 2008 G. Opt (Ohio) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a solid, medium weight stand. It does what it's supposed to do and is better for lights/flashes/etc that are on the medium weight side(or if you have softboxes). Frankly, I prefer my Manfrotto 001B, which is a super-light-weight 6 foot stand, and folds down much smaller. So in the end... as a studio stand, great. As a portable stand, not bad, but you can buy lighter. Build quality is fine and none of the hardware seems cheap. A previous review said this stand was "air cushioned" but it really isn't. It might have that effect in the right conditions but I own some true "air cushioned" stands and this one is not. For the price, you won't complain.
Good. Cheap. Portable. And cheap. May 27, 2008 Schuylercat (Charlotte, NC) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
That's about it - I wish they were cushioned, but for the price that's what you get. These are pretty light, which I like from a portability standpoint, but from the durability side we'll just have to see. Still, they're very inexpensive. And they're a little plasticky. But what the heck: I don't use them to drive nails, do I? And besides, they're really inexpensive... I suspect two of these are the price of two comparably-sized Manfrotto stands (they are, after all, relatively inexpensive), and two of these would probably last just as long as one of those...maybe. I recommend them. UPDATE 6-14-2008 - I packed these up into a location back and went out of the country to shoot a wedding. As of now, my opinion hasn't changed: these held up fine. I expected all the plastics to be in little bits in the bag, but all is well.
