Wow! I can't believe what a value this is. The video is awesome and the book is the real deal. Stew Smith is the guru of military -- SEAL --- fitness and this is exactly what I needed to get started on my quest to be in top shape. The book contains detailed workout plans and exercise instruction tips etc.

The bonus video (DVD) is very helpful for form, swimming (underwater shots are awesome!),etc. Woirth the price alone. Great job!

I've had this book since the very first printing several years ago, and originally bought the VHS tape to go with it. Now, they include a DVD of all the exercises with it. People, it really doesn't get any better than that! Where can you get one of the most excellent resources on fitness as well as a DVD for under $15? If you DO the workouts included in the book, you will reach a level of fitness that you have never reached before. If you want to be in good shape, buy another book. If you want to be in GREAT shape, get this book.

Provides a descriptive & intense 12 week workout program that will get anyone into peak physical condition. Also provides illustrations to clarify any questions about particular exercises. A great book for future SEALs or fitness phanatics.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent, Excellent, Excellent   April 30, 2006

This is a superb book. I just finished week 3 and have so far lost one inch off of my waist, and lost 5 pounds. I haven't been dieting either. Before, I could run 2 miles in about 15:00 pretty consistently, but couldn't really make myself run further than that. Today, I ran 3 miles in 21:28, which translates to a 21 sec/mile decrease in time for a longer run. Additionally, I am swimming much more efficiently (My CSS went from 10 strokes/pool length to 4) and can swim for much longer than I was previously able to. ...not to mention the significant improvements I have made in pushups and pullups.

If you want a solid workout that will make you sleep well at night, this is the book for you. It's a solid workout program that isn't in the least bit monotonous and will produce great results. It also has a lot of good tips for BUD/S hopeful's along with a great DVD that demonstrates the Combat Swimmer Stroke (CSS) freestyle, and CSS with fins. Of course it demonstrates every other exercise and stretch also. I personally believe that the DVD is worth more than the price in itself.

Oh yeah, I e-mailed the author about a question I had and he responded within a half-an-hour, so he seems pretty accessible.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son [Jesus Christ] that whosoever believeth on Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. ~John 3:16

5 out of 5 stars A good workout   June 30, 2006

After running a marathon, I was a little bored with running so I decided to do something with more variety. I picked up this book and I'd have to say it was a really good experience. Not only was I in ridiculously good physical condition but people could tell I was (and you get great posture). My three minor criticisms are:
1) The author introduces a style of swimming in this book that was rather hard for me to figure out. I had to google around until I found a short movie of it and even then I was a little unsure of its application.
2) Like any workout of this magnitude, you're going to end up spending a lot of time by yourself... unless you find workout partners.
3) You'll get some muscle mass from the pushups, pullups, etc. But since here isn't a weight lifting component, you may not see much. This is also kind of an endurance program so that's another reason you shouldn't expect to look like the pictures of the author throughout the book (particularly if you have a lanky body type to begin with).
