Amazon.com Product Description Bright lights, burly cases, fail-safe on/off switches, virtual indestructibility: there are good reasons to rave about Mag Instrument flashlights. Powered by 2 D-cell batteries, the bright, powerful light adjusts from spot to flood simply by rotating the head. The light is housed in a case made of high-strength aluminum alloy that has been anodized inside and out. This, along with high-quality O-rings at both openings, give you water- and shock-resistance in a lightweight package. Maglite's switches are rubber-coated, weather-protected, and self-cleaning-they're virtually indestructible. In short, this flashlight is almost indestructible-a good quality when it comes to the tools re rely on to help you find your way in the dark. Limited lifetime warranty. Requires 2 D-cell batteries (not included). Includes spare bulb (stored in end-cap). If you want more run-time than 2 D-cells will give you, see Mag Instrument products #S3D016 and #S4D016.--Josh DettweilerWhat's in the Box Flashlight, spare bulb

Let There Be Light! March 29, 2000 Bruce Caines (New York City) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Need to light up a space with a powerful flashlight? This is the way to go. It's a bit lighter than the 4 D cell version which is great for anyone who might want or need to hand-hold this for more than a minute or two. For my money this 2 cell light throws just as powerful a beam as its bigger sibling. It focuses to a concentrated spot and with the twist of your wrist spreads a broad beam to light a path in the darkest places. I've stood it on end, bounced the light off the ceiling and illuminated a small room with mine. Not enough to live with but certainly look for something small on the floor! The rubber gaskets keep water out if you need to use it in the rain or in any place it might get a good dousing. The rubberized power switch is easy to find in the dark and easy to click on. An extra lamp comes in the base cap. Nice touch.
Imminently durable January 23, 2003 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I've had my Mag 2 D-cell flashlight for over 10 years now, and it still works flawlessly. While other flashlights have rotted, rusted, or just plain broken, my Mag still shines. It's literally the last flashlight you'll need to buy.The fact that you can adjust the beam from a broad floodlight to a focused spotlight is nice, though I've found that mine doesn't focus into a small, even circle as well as I would like.
Simply the Best. September 21, 2004 tvtv3 (Sorento, IL United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Though this 2D model is slightly smaller than the 4D model that many people are familar with, this model is just as useful. In fact, I prefer the 2D model because it's easier to handle and not as awkward to carry as the longer 4D model. The light in this baby shines bright enough to almost completely illuminate a small room. If you so desire, you can focus the beam or let it spill out. The bulb hardly ever has to be replaced and even if you use the inexpensive batteries, they don't need to be replaced as often either (the light sucks ALL the juice out). Besides just being a great flashlight, the Mag-Lite 2D also works well as a club--you can actually knock someone out cold. A great tool; one that every home should at least have one of.

Terrific Flashlight For Home And Vehicle! November 23, 2000 Barron Laycock (Temple, New Hampshire United States) Anyone who lives as far out in the rural countryside as I do gets accustomed to power interruptions, whether they are due to downed power lines from ice storms, someone hitting a key telephone pole and knocking out a transformer, or is the result of one of the occassional electrical storms we have during the warmer months of the year. In any and all of these circumstances I can always depend on my collection of mag-lights to see me through the darkness of the house in order to light my well-used candles and oil lamps until the power is finally restored. I also have one in each of my two trucks, and when I recently narrowly missed hitting a startled deer late at night and went off the road into a muddy field, the trusty mag light was invaluable in helping me find a winching point to pull myself out of the muddy gully. So, whether it is a venture down into the blackened hole my basement becomes late at night, or finding my way to the bathroom in the middle of the night, I can always depend on my mag lights to candle-power my way wherever I am going. I have four or five of the middle-sized ones like the one displayed here, but actually also have three or four of the largest ones as well. I love mine, and although I seem to misplace at least one or two a year, I always have an ample supply of both mag-lights and replacement batteries because I find they are absolutely essential out here in the woods. Get one today.
