Amazon.com Product Description VTech has specifically designed this extra handset and charging unitfor use with the VTech VT2421, VT2431, and VT2461 dual-keypadspeakerphones as a second, matching handset to provide further rangeand greater telephoning convenience. And you'll enjoy the sleek design, compact size, and light weight. Set up your VTech base station, then choose another location foryour supplemental 2420 handset. Mobile hands-free calling is essentialif you spend a great deal of time on the phone. With the advantage of the extra handset, you can always be near a phone--whether you are at the pool, in any room, or out on the factory floor. There will be no more running to catch a call and just missing it at the last ring. Operating on the 2.4 GHz band, your 2420 keeps conversations crisp, clear, and uninterrupted, even as you work throughout the house, garden, or office complex, as this higher-frequency signal offersgreater clarity and longer range than older phones operatingon a lower band could. The VTech 2420 handset comes with a one-yearwarranty.
Product Description The VTech vt2420 handset is designed for use with the vt2431 2.4 GHz cordless phone system, which can support up to four handsets. This handset, which is identical to the one that comes with the vt2431, with its own plug-in charger base and has a 4-line LCD screen to display Call Waiting Caller ID data and provide access to the menus for both the phone and the system. The handset also has a built-in speakerphone.

Satisfactory for the most part December 25, 2006 D. W. Neumann (Minneapolis, MN United States) We've owned these phones (i.e., this accessory handset and the base with answering machine) for two or three years now. Never had any of the problems others have described here, e.g., "searching for handset" or "buzzing" or other noise problems. In fact one of the best things about this unit is that you can actually hear the person on the other end quite well. One excellent feature of this system is that the programmed numbers are centrally stored, so you only have to enter them once and they are accessible on all handsets. There was one problem: After a short period after purchase (3 months or so), the handset would often show a "CHECK BATTERY" warning for apparently no reason (the handset constantly sits on its charger, so how could this be?). I searched for some help online and found that others had this problem and had received no help from the reportedly terrible tech support at vtech. Those reviewers also said that replacing the batteries didn't help, so I didn't even bother trying that. We found that the temporary fix was to jigger one of the batteries, so we just lived with it. However, after a couple years of use the phones didn't retain their charge for very long, so we decided to replace the factory NiMH batteries (mAh 500) with new ones that could hold much more energy -- 1000 mAh. And since then we've not seen the CHECK BATTERY problem even once. So in the end the only problem we experienced with these phones was caused by the cheap AAA batteries that came with them. So get some better batteries and you'll be happy with this product.

The phone works well, looks great. But the keypad wears out in about a year or so of normal home use. Pathetic. I have bought numerous additional handsets to replace the worn out ones, but now they are so expensive it makes more sense to bite the bullet and go get an entirely new system. I would not buy vtech again.
Phones don't give warning...just go dead! May 22, 2004 S. Powell (Minneapolis, MN) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
We bought the main 2431 with 2 add'l handsets. ALL the phones, when the battery is low it goes "Beep beep beep" as a warning and then dies!!! By the time we search for another one the call has been disconnected. I have another VTech phone that's not near as expensive and it warns when battery is low and gives you 3 minutes or so to change the battery.
V-Tech expandable phones December 30, 2003 I have this set. I actually have the base one with 2 expandables. I love it, works well. I have an apartment with only 1 good jack. So this helps me to have a phone in just about every room. You can even replace them on the others handset with no problems.
you can stop looking for a phone now. November 22, 2003 I bought the V Tech phone system over 3 years ago and I am still very happy with it. Great features, great looking phone. I have one in almost every room of my house. If you get the base model then you can expand the system to 4 phones. A really great thing if you have teenagers in your house. It has an intercom system which is a nice convenience too. It is reasonably priced and full of all the features that you could possibly want. A great buy for the money. Finallly, a terrific phone with all the features for the average household.! Teenagers love it too.
