I purchase the ER33C after reading a lot of reviews and all I can say is there are a lot of people that are satisfied with poor performance.
The ER33C is VERY uncomfortable with ALL of the supplied tips. I modified the gray tip and it was sort of comfortable but not great.
The most common complaint I have read is that the mike slips down away from your mouth and you cannot be heard. I found this to be the case and moments after moving the mike up near your mouth it would slip down again. The reason is because of a poor placement of the cord which tugs on the boom pulling it down and could easily be rectified by Etymotic.
I say "near my mouth" because the boom is only about 4 inches long and so the mike is pointing at your cheek not your mouth. This is really stupid design but what do I know!
Even when the mike was directly near my mouth everyone I spoke with said the sound was not good. Not only does the noise canceling feature not work but the mike is too far from your mouth. I am not sure why the boom could not be made 2 inches longer so the mike is directly in front of your mouth but that would help a lot.
Don't waste your money.

I could hear others well, but callers consistently had trouble hearing me. I positioned the microphone in every configuration I could think of, but never did get a good volume on the other end. I'm no longer using this and have moved back to my old headset.

Callers on the other end could not hear me, I returned it. Would not recommend. Voice clarity was amazing...but I was not impressed with everything else.
OK, a little awkward May 6, 2008

As you can see by the picture, this device has merely an ear canal insert and the microphone and cord just dangle. It feels a little awkward to me, although if you're not moving it does stay in as long as you've "pulled your ear back" while inserting it, which creates a clamp effect between your ear canal and the rubber insert. The earset itself is light enough to work this way. The problem is the cable, which drags, gets bumped by clothing, etc, and jiggles things. You have to clip the cable to your collar for sure, it's not optional like with over-the-ear headsets. It comes with a little Y-shaped adapter which lets you use it with SKYPE or other PC-based systems. Interestingly, while this works fine, the earset has a little whistle-y electronic noise with Etymotic that I don't hear (no matter how close I listen) with some other earsets I have. It's not noticeable once a conversation starts. Overall, for most use, I don't find it's much better than a couple $7 dollar over-the-ear earsets Radio Shack used to stock (no longer do). It may be, as someone reported, it's way better for wind noise, I haven't tried that. It comes with a couple fluffy black sponge wind masks for the mike bulb.

This product works great. I work as an IT person at a casino, and with this headset I can be heard easily both in the server room, and out on the gaming floor. I had no problem hearing anyone else, either. I tried several different bluetooth headsets, and none of them did the job very well. There might be bluetooth headsets that would do the job, but they will be a lot more expensive than this, and a drain on your battery life.
