1 out of 5 stars Died on me, 11 months past warranty   July 8, 2008
arisrocks
I bought it just under 2 years ago, never gave me problems until one day, two weeks ago it just wouldn't turn on. Gateway wouldn't let me talk to them about their monitor without paying them, because it was "out of warranty." Gateway monitors only hav e a 1-year warranty, they are pretty confident about their product aren't they? Paying just to talk to them without any guarantees did not seem like a good use of my limited finances. So i took it in to both a Best Buy and an independent monitor repair. Both gave me estimates of $150 to replace the panel because the panel had been shot. The panel is the part that takes in the power cord. The independent people told me that Gateway had switched from japanese panel parts to non-japanese panel parts a few years ago so that they can drop their monitor prices, so you can get more "value." Well, i got screwed. It made no sense for me to invest another $150 dollars in a 2-year old monitor, so i threw it out, and bought a Samsung 19" for $200 and it comes with a 3 YEAR WARRANTY. I strongly suggest you look for monitors with extended warranties. These LCDs are NOTHING like the old CRTs that can last 100 years.

5 out of 5 stars Great monitor   January 10, 2008

I bought this monitor from Best Buy almost a year ago and we've never had any problems with it. The picture quality is great even for movies, the size makes it easy to use two programs at the same time, side-by-side and adjusting the picture or angle of the screen are very simple. I don't have any complaints.

I have been using this monitor for a year and a half and this monitor is SUPER! I do a lot of video editing so I am picky about my monitor, I don't settle for anything... This one lives up to the standard! in fact it even surpasses my standard!!!! It is most definitely worth every cent!!! very nice High Def. resolution! Widescreen? just another added benefit!!! makes me feel like I'm in a theater instead of at home! get yourself a good sound system with this and then its really like a theater! This monitor is very good for gaming! I just love it!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Two, side by side - CINERAMA!   August 22, 2007

I know I'm dating myself with the term, Cinerama. For those of you too young to know what it is, it was one of the first widescreen cinema formats back in the early 50s (even I wasn't around then). The filmmakers would make the movie using three cameras which were mounted side by side in an arc and it would be shown in theaters using three projectors side by side on a super-wide, curved screen. The end result was an image that was almost 180 degrees. Much wider than anything today. You would have to turn your head to see the whole picture. The only problem was there were actually noticeable "lines" where the frames met on the screen. Rent "How the West Was Won" some time and you'll be able to see the seams. Anyway...enough of that. The reason I brought it up is because these great Gateway 19" monitors are so affordable I was able to purchase two of them and use them side by side to extend my desktop. The image quality, contrast and response time are all exceptional. I've never had a single problem with either monitor. DVDs look great and high def content looks remarkable. In fact, maybe I'll get one more and set them up so I can display each panel of "How the West Was Won" on its own monitor! :-)

4 out of 5 stars A Great Monitor for the Price   July 21, 2007

We bought this monitor along with a Gatetway 5432 computer at Best Buy this past spring and have been pleased with both products.

I would definitely recommend a 19" such as this product over a 17" anyday. The 19" is certainly easier on the eyes and the rectangular picture is better that the more square-like picture of a 17".

The picture quality is excellent, installation is a breeze, making picture adjustments as needed is easy. This is the first flat panel monitor we have owned and love the way it saves desk space!

All in all, an excellent monitor for the price. Highly recommended.
