3 out of 5 stars Reception range limited   September 17, 2008

I bought these radios a couple days after the Chino Hills quake with the specific intent of emergency use. (Cel phone lines were extremely erratic the first couple of hours after the quake). My mom lives about 1.06 miles away from me, but I figured that the range ratings of these radios were typically overblown. Still, I bought them just to give them a try. As expected, being in a (beach)city environment, reception with my mom was virtually non-existent. I was told by my paramedic friend that I needed a more robust system like those used by the FD or Police or military. Returning the radios to Amazon was a breeze.

3 out of 5 stars works well enough, but range limited   September 8, 2008

The radios worked as expected. I like that the batteries are Li ion and I don't have to fully deplete them before re-charging. I assumed that the advertised range of 20 miles was exaggerated and it was; 2 miles through thick woods was about the limit.

5 out of 5 stars Great Product   July 4, 2008

My wife and I purchased the raidos so that we could communcate back and fourth while I was pulling our trailer and she was pulling our boat.
It work great with the exception when you get out of line of site, but thats for most of the raidos. Otherwise when I was on the lake fishing we were able to chat and I could tell her all the big fish I was catching.
It works well and easy to operate. This is our first raido and I would recommend this product.

5 out of 5 stars Best two way radio yet   June 21, 2008

Have been dedicated to the Motorola brand up til now. I'm very impressed with the Cobra LI5600, and have 4 pairs of radios to compare them to. My first impression was the sound quality, it doesn't sound like a tin can, and is plenty loud. It's very compact, and is only slightly thicker than a cell phone. In fact, I use a cell phone holster to carry it. Unfortunately the belt clip looks fragile, but could do the job. The Li-ion battery is a plus and gives it much longer battery life than any radio I've had before. Tests so far have found it to have good range, 1-2 miles in town, just as most radios. They can be charged through the cradle or directly with the transformer, a nice feature. I'm glad I went with the 5600, as the 7200 is larger than I'd prefer, and the 6700's only benefit is weather reception. Was about to take a chance on my 5th pair of moto's with the EM1000R, and glad I didn't. I highly recommend these. Plan to buy a second pair soon. Even my co-workers like these better, and as a result, use them more often.
