Amazon.com Product Description
Ideal for college students, engineers, surveyors, and medical personnel, the HP 35s scientific calculator offers calculation versatility in one economical unit. For added versatility, the HP 35s lets users choose between RPN or algebraic entry-system logic (no other scientific calculator offers both). It also features a large, two-line alphanumeric display to view entries, results, menus, and prompts with ease. The display also sports an adjustable contrast feature, making it ideal to use both indoors and out. A robust library of 100+ built-in functions and constants also comes pre-loaded for immediate use right out of the box. A robust memory ensures even the largest calculations go smoothly and quickly, and more than 800 independent storage registers allow users to store an equation, then use it again to solve any variable, or employ the equation in conjunction with any of the 100+ built-in functions. The calculator is backed by a manufacturer's 1-year limited warranty.

5 out of 5 stars Civil engineer   September 20, 2008

I really the calculator, however I wish HP would bring back the 11C and 32S.

5 out of 5 stars Going Back to Core Competency   September 19, 2008
Jojo Lemalin (Brighton, Massachusetts USA)
I am glad to see HP going back to its source. This calculator is far from being perfect, but it is going toward the RPN lover and smart kids (addicted user would be the right word)this is the reason for my rating. This is the way for HP to differentiate from the packs of TI and Casio made for average users that try to reduce the usage of their brain to a minimum. This is what the base supporters want because they also want to differentiate themselves from the other users.
Hope that HP will continue that way. I am using this calculator with a lot of pride and emotion.

Good solid calculator. The two registers take a little while to get used to, but now I wouldn't be without them.

4 out of 5 stars Good but not great   September 13, 2008

The best engineering calculator of all time was the HP41 series. It was intuitive, functionally simple and expandable. The 48 was a marvel but a bit overboard with complexity of functions and menu structure. The 35S is a fair comprimise if you only need simple keystroke programming.

PROS: RPN RPN RPN, classic XYZT stack, big keys, keypress feedback, ENTER key where it ought to be, simple programming.

CONS: No I/O connectivity. No USB, No card slot, Low-res display, Single alpha character naming only, price.

PICKY: Limited conversions, limited constants, decimal points not forced to align on display (RPN mode is left justified), ON button not recessed, 2nd & 3rd function button arrows indicate L & R (why?). PI, STO & X^2 should be primary keys, HMS-> should read ->D.DD, inches should convert to ->mm, ALG mode unnessary.

4 out of 5 stars 35s - Great Calculator   September 4, 2008
Drew D (Morro Bay, CA)
This is a great calculator. As a young engineer preparing for the PE exam, I am very impressed with this updated classic calculator. HP and RPN is the way to go. Only one problem. HP does not include a printed owner's manual. You have to call HP to order one. I look forward to being able to maximize the capabilities of this calculator when the owner's manual arrives.
