No problems at all December 5, 2008 mango (metro nyc area) Originally had an iLuvI707 FM transmitter. That worked pretty well... until after about 3 months the back light simply died one day (and with it getting darker earlier in the morning when I leave for work as we were coming into fall/winter, that didn't bode well. The place from which I bought it no longer sells it, so they gave me a gift card instead. Decided to go on the hunt for the same product or others, and came across this one in the process. I didn't know what to expect, given the mixed reviews, but it sounded to be the best option out of everything I researched (which was pretty much most of the major ones). Well, it arrived just before my trip up to Boston for Thanksgiving last week (from NYC, so there was plenty of time to test it). The verdict: I LOVE IT. We drove up through White Plains, then up Rt. 684 towards Brewster, then through CT (Danbury, Waterbury, Hartford, etc...) and upwards to Mass. I'm sure we left radio station ranges a few times, but I swear, pretty much the only time I got static and had to change the station was if we turned the motor off and then back on (we only stopped once or twice). The Clear Scan is a godsend...my previous transmitter was a major pain because every time I heard static (which was more often than with this product) I'd have to experiment with stations and tune the iPod accordingly (not exactly convenient). After my Thanksgiving trip, I also got a chance to give this a test run to/from work a couple of days this week... I live in one of the most "radio-crowded" parts of the country (right ouside NYC in NJ), and I had no problems. My only disappointment is how big it is compared to my i-Luv...I had to buy a new carrying case (which is actually a mini-DVD player carrying case). The shape with the gooseneck sticking out the back makes it kind of bulky. But the performance is excellent, and the cradle/spacers make it really easy to slide the ipod in and out so it hits the socket exactly (I have a classic 80GB). It's definitely a bummer that you can't keep the cover on the iPod while using this, but I got used to that fact from using my other transmitter. I also love how this fits every single iPod; my boyfriend has a nano and I'm sure he'll want to use this sometimes when we take road trips too. I could go on and on, but I'll stop here... I'd highly recommend this product. I just hope it holds up for a long time, because it doesn't seem like there are alot of highly-regarded FM transmitters out there!
Not Worth the Money! November 24, 2008 A. Kalchuk (Miami, Florida) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I researched these transmitters for a about a month before i made my final decision on this belkin. From what I read prior to my purchase, about most transmitters, I expected there was going to be some static. I was hopeful that it would be minimal. This was not the case. I travel into Miami for work and found myself spending more time trying to find a clear station than listening to the music. I have since hooked my ipod up with an auxilary port into the back of my radio and the sound is crystal clear. I recommend this option if you want to save yourself the headache. If your radio doesn't allow this option, buy one that does. Only positive for me on this belkin was the stand.
Not suitable for cities with crowded FM radio frequencies November 16, 2008 roboonya 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This device is not suitable for using in Bangkok. There are too many FM radio stations here and their frequencies are very close to each other. I cannot listen to my iPod nano without interference. The charger is not fit well with my car's (Honda Civic 2003) cigarette lighter. When it was put into place it's difficult to remove.
Good but mounting problematic November 1, 2008 SplitEdit (Los Angeles) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This product worked very effectively -- for less than a day. The display is very clear and it automatically finds open stations, which can be helpful (though I was able to do better in just a minute or two manually). It holds the iPod nicely and has adaptors for lots of models. The controls are intuitive, too. All in all, it seemed very well designed. The problem is the way in which it mounts into the cigarette lighter. There's a rubber gasket that's attached to the front of the plug, which is designed to hold the thing firmly in place. But that gasket makes it almost impossible to remove the Tunebase without nearly tearing the socket out of the dash. This is exactly what happened with us when we wanted to adjust the positioning of the Tunebase. And in the course of pulling the thing out -- just once -- the Tunebase somehow got fried and the channel display stopped working. And so, it went back. Unfortunately, we can't use a cassette adapter because we don't have a working cassette player in this particular car. So now, with the Tunebase off the list, we're probably going to install a new radio -- with a line input jack. That has the potential to sound better and won't be yet another RF source near the driver's body.
It wasn't quite what I expected October 29, 2008 Jeannie Taylor-Harvey (Jacksonville, FL USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Before purchasing this product for use with my I-Pod Nanochromatic, I researched for hours to make sure the product would be compatible as well as economical. According to the Apple website, this product can be used with the 4th Generation I-Pod Nano. Although it can be used, there is no adaptor seat for the I-Pod Nanochromatic, and does not feel as secure as I'd hoped. That aside, the sound quality is fine as long as you keep the signal. You can try to program a couple of stations, but that is no guarantee that this frequency will be strong a half a mile down the road. I've had to switch stations a lot, and all this station changing is even more distracting than driving while using a cell phone (at least you can try to keep your eyes on the road while doing that). If you're willing to give it a try, I would definitely recommend purchasing it on Amazon.com. I saved over $30.00 by purchasing it on Amazon.com. Considering I've had mixed results with the Belkin Tunebase FM Transmitter, I'm glad I didn't pay retail.
