| Customer Reviews:
This scanner is incredible. October 3, 2008 Michael Ross (Denver, CO United States) I really love my new scanner. It was expensive, but worth it. I scan everything that comes across my desk, and I even scan all of my magazines so I can recycle them once I've given them a first read. I just slice the binding off with a utility knife and straight edge, and feed the whole magazine into the scanner. It will jam occasionally, but most magazines go through without a hitch. Bank statements and documents work great. I do wish it was TWAIN compliant, so I could scan into Quicken directly, but I just scan a document and then import the PDF. I got the bundle, but I'm not a big fan of Rack2Filer. I like having PDF's that I can sort as files. I use the built in software, and sort by folders. Seems to be working well so far. I keep waiting for new stuff to come in the mail so I can scan it and get rid of it.
best scanner ever September 29, 2008 Mary Beth Mcmanus (North Palm Beach, FL United States) I have owned this scanner for several years. I am now buying two more for my business because I have multiple locations and I want to try the Rack Filer software. First of all the unit has a very small foot print on the desk. Then, it is so simple to use. Just place your pages to be scanned on the unit and press the green buttin and voila, you have a .pdf. This has chnaged how we store documents completely. As a warning the save option will default to your My Picture folder. Be very careful.
Seldom does an item do what is sez it will September 18, 2008 William H. Johnson 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Seldom does an item do what is sez it will but from the moment I installed the software and plugged it in, I was impressed. Some software updates will not download but it has not seemed to be a major drawback.
Very good++ home solution September 7, 2008 R. Mizuno (Houston, TX) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Been using the Scansnap S510 extensively (2-3 hours per day) since I bought it. Very, very pleased with it for general document scanning. Things I like: -- small size, takes up very little room on the desk -- fast compared to an All-in-one solution -- easy to set up and get working (but, see below) -- comes with Adobe 8.0 Regular Things I don't like: -- Installation is easy but required 3 different discs depending on what functions you want to use. Should take a lesson from HP and make it a single install package that includes both the proprietary drivers and Adobe. -- Feeding mechanism is much better than on home all-in-one flatbed scanners, but still occasionally grabs more than 1 page at once or feeds crooked. Not all the time, but enough to require close monitoring. -- Software needs improvement. e.g., it has multiple options for scanning (to a file, to e-mail, to Excel, etc.). However, if I pick the wrong one, I haven't found a way to go back to another option without having to re-scan (this may be in the documentation, but I'm not a big instruction manual reader). -- Would be nice to have a wireless and/or network option. Overall, I would give to 4+ stars for the hardware and 3 stars for the software. Very solid for home, but may not be a great commercial solution.
Best Electronic Gadget I've bought in a Long Time July 1, 2008 Nom de Plume (Columbia, SC) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I've had this several weeks now and am SERIOUSLY impressed. I've scanned about 2500 pages of old bank statements, medical records, bills, etc. and it has performed better than I expected. I read reviews on this site and others that gave it glowing praise. I expected something that worked OK. It is better than that by a long, long way! After scanning all these documents I've had maybe 6 or 8 misfeeds. I caught those quickly and rescanned with no problems the second time through. And this is with documents that were up to 30 years old. I think that is amazing. Some people have complained (at least on other sites) that the settings were hard to change. I disagree! Right click the icon in the system tray. Choose the "Scan Button Settings" and then change them in two clicks. Could it be much easier. And if you want to change them for just one document, many settings are in that same menu. While I purchased the version that includes the full version of Rack2-Filer, I haven't installed it yet. I'm not sure if I need it because I have been naming my files and placing them in folders in such a way that I don't have a problem finding and identifying them. I might place my copy on eBay instead. So, you might want to buy the slightly less expensive version of this scanner. As many have said, this is not a general purpose scanner. But, I'm glad I purchased this scanner for the purpose of going "Paperless". It has and will help with that task.
