Product Description This UV Filter blocks the invisible UV component of light from the sky, which can cause blur and to which many color films react with a blue cast. UV Filters are ideal for photography in high altitudes (in the mountains), by the sea and in regions with very clean air. The pictures gain brilliance and disturbing blue casts are avoided. Because the glass is colorless, color rendition is not altered, aside from the elimination of the unwanted blue cast, and no increase in exposure is required. That makes a UV Filter very suitable as protection of the front element of the taking lens against dust, flying sand, sea water spray and the like, and it can be kept on the lens at all times. It is recommended for analog color and black-and-white as well as digital photography.

Super Quality August 9, 2008 Bering Strait It is solid. The glass is super. I don't see any side effects in images. Strongly recommended.
Good Quality Filter July 16, 2008 W. Knape (Westland, MI USA) I have no reduction in quality on my Canon XSi. Quality of this filter was as promised-- you pay for what you get.
A top of the line filter. May 21, 2008 DARKSKY (West Texas) 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
A high priced, top of the line filter. I have just received mine, so I haven't had a chance to use it, but I'm sure it is as good as the other reviewers say. I gave mine 4 stars based on a few things I have noticed that may not be so great about it. 1). The price. I'm sure it is worth the price due to its multi-coatings, etc, but if you have a few lenses and want to put a protective filter on each, it will get costly. 2). If you snug this filter down (even lightly) on a plastic lens adaptor, you may never get it off without a filter wrench. Go lightly, metal and plastic threads don't mix well. 3). The case is too large. It is a square plastic case that measures 5/8 by 3.5 by 3.5 inches. It takes up too much space in my bag, and is too big to fit in any of my bag's side pockets. A standard round, plastic, smaller case like those that come with some lesser filters would be better. Just thought I would mention a few downsides to this otherwise highly rated filter. ADDED: I ordered it directly from the Adorama web site and saved nearly $2 over ordering it from Adorama through Amazon. Also, on the Adorama site there are several versions of this B&W filter for lower prices, but they don't necessarily have the same level of multi-coatings. The best multi-coatings will reduce or eliminate reflections on the filter glass from showing up in your photos.
B+W UV-Haze 1X MRC filter December 25, 2007 A. Heline (Chicago area) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Purchased the 58mm version of this to protect the lens on a Cannon S5 IS (I am of the old school of protecting lenses). The construction is as solid as a rock and the filter element is crystal clear. I went with the B&W because of the brass outer ring. This filter will mate to an aluminum Lensmate adapter (highly recommended). Aluminum to aluminum can seize. Aluminum to plastic will bind (under certain conditions) but brass does not have that interactive problem under normal (non-maritime) conditions. Therefore, this filter can buffer between the Lensmate adapter and anything I want to screw into the female threads of this filter. Brass and B+W are a good thing (so Martha would say).
Top quality filter August 28, 2007 T. Keidl 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I bought this filter for my Canon 50mm f/1.4. The 50mm lens consistently gives me my top images so I wanted a good quality filter for it. My main goal here is protection of my lens, but at the same time I wanted something that didn't degrade my images. I usually get lower quality filters but this time decided to splurg for the expensive one. My first impression was that this thing actually has some weight to it. It feels like you're actually getting something. When you pick it up, you can really notice a difference in lower quality filters (I usually bought Hoya or something from Best Buy in the past). This is well built. Second impression is that this filter is *crystal* clear. My other filters are not as noticeably clear as this. Now, when I have taken photos with this, I have still gotten the nice crisp clear shots I normally got with my 50mm. So it's protecting the lens and keeping my shots clear--exactly what I want from it. You may get exactly the same with a cheaper filter, I didn't try anything else. All I can tell you is that this filter delivered. Also, I don't think I saw it listed in the specs, but this is the MRC model (meaning Pro grade).
