5 out of 5 stars Awesome   September 19, 2008

I read a lot of reviews before picking this cheaper battery grip for my Rebel XTI. I'm not a professional, but its works just fine, specially for vertical shots. The functions are as good as the ones on the camera. Nothing to complaint.
Price is also a plus.

4 out of 5 stars No punches pulled on this Review   September 14, 2008

First let me say I've read every review on this product before I bought it. The first thing I learned is you can't please everyone and some people just nit-picked this product apart. Since I could'nt afford a genuine Canon grip and then buy 2 batteries to go with it this seemed like a great deal. Other reviewers said the buttons seemed mushy. They are but not so much that I did'nt get used to it rather quickly and it does'nt bother me in the least bit now. They said the dial does'nt click for each position, mine does, not as much as the one on the camera but it does'nt bother me either. Some said the batteries did'nt last long. I shoot something every day and on weekends I shoot quite a bit. Did not have to recharge the batteries for the first month. Just don't leave the grip turned on all the time and shut your camera off when your done shooting. I have never had a problem with it losing power when in the vertical position as some have said they have. Most everyone complained about the grip material coming off, they made it sound like it was peeling off completely as soon as it came out of the box. Yes it was coming up on the very edge on the back side, NOT falling off. I took a little brush and some super glue and solved the problem in less than 5 minutes. The Opteka Battery Pack Grip fit my xti perfectly. I have'nt taken it off yet and do not plan to. Would I reccomend it? YES. Would I buy another one if I bought a backup camera? YES. Am I satisfied with the price and performance of this product? YES YES YES. Best accessory other than lenses I have bought for my Rebel xti. I highly recommend the Opteka Battery Pack Grip.

1 out of 5 stars Got what I paid for. . .   September 2, 2008

I knew the chance I was taking when I purchased this item. I knew people had experienced some problems with it but the majority of reviews were good. So I decided to give it a try. I should have known better.

The first time I tried to take a shot the camera just died like the plug was pulled.

I thought.. . "Huh, maybe my batteries were dead. . ." Then I remembered, "Noooo. . just charged them (they were both canon batteries)."

It took me 5 minutes to get the camera to power back up with the grip on. So a little experimenting led me to discover that the battery compartment does not fit snugly into the holster and if it moves even a little bit the grip looses contact with it and the camera looses all power. Peace of c. ..

So now I'll have to pack back up the batteries it came with and pack back up the grip and somehow convince the company I bought it from to give me a refund. Considering how long it took for them to remember to send the grip out to me to begin with I'm not expecting this to be a fast process.

So for anyone who is considering this. . proceed with caution. And don't be surprised if you are the next review saying "I should have known better".

I'll stick with Canon from now on. I WAS warned.

4 out of 5 stars Cheap and High Quality   July 28, 2008

Functions exactly the same as the Canon OEM grip, but it is slightly noticable that it is not as high quality as the OEM. This doesn't mean it doesn't work as needed, the shutter button is a little softer than the OEM grip trigger, but works fine. Brilliant product for the price and extra batteries!

4 out of 5 stars A good alternative to the Canon BGE3   July 24, 2008

I've holded off my own review because I wanted to test it out first.
After testing it for 3 weeks, I would have to say its a pretty good product for its price.
- The battery that comes with it are 2x900mAh making it a total of 1800mAh.
- Using just 1 battery to power the camera and grip is similar to the original battery. 300-400 shots. It's not the flimsy battery unlike the first one that's included.
- The Grip feels nice. There was a small part of the rubber in the grip that was not sticking properly but it was easily fixed.
- The Dial and the shutter button does feel different than the one in the camera BUT it hasn't stopped me from taking pictures. There is still a distinct feel when you have focus locked.
- The delivery was good enough it arrived on the monday after july 4. It was supposed to arrive in july 4 but that's a holiday.

Overall - If you're in a tight budget this is a good deal for hobbyists.
