Amazon.com Product Description The Canon Pixma iP4500 is a stylish unit that boasts both a five-color ink system and a 4,608-nozzle print head to deliver wonderfully lifelike color, along with bold, laser-quality text. How does it work? The print head ejects precision droplets as small as one picoliter, resulting in a breathtaking 9600 x 2400 color dot-per-inch (dpi) resolution as well as a truly exceptional level of detail. Remarkably efficient, the iP4500 also will print a borderless 4-by-6-inch photo in only about 21 seconds. And you can store both photo paper and plain paper in the two paper trays at the same time, so you're always ready to print exactly what you need. The user-friendly iP4500 provides lots of options, so you can indulge your creativity. With this system, you get four dye-based inks plus a pigment-based black ink, the option of printing two-sided documents to save paper, and the ability to print right from your infrared-enabled mobile camera phone. Simply capture an image with a PictBridge-ready digital camera or DV camcorder, then connect and print--it's that simple. And to make sure your favorite shots look their best, the built-in automatic image-fixing feature via Easy PhotoPrint EX also helps ensure that each image is as clear and vibrant as possible. What's in the Box Pixma iP4500 photo printer, document kit (cross sell sheet, easy setup instructions, quick start guide), setup software and user's guide on CD-ROM, PGI-5 pigment black ink tank, CLI-8 (black/cyan/magenta/yellow) ink tank, sample media (five 8.5-by-11-inch sheets and four print alignment sheets), power cord, and print head.

Specified product dimensions are NOT correct August 4, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Be aware that the dimensions of this printer are not as advertised.
In the Product Features it says "Dimensions: 11.9 x 6.3 x 17.5 in. (WxHxD)", and in the Technical Details it says "Dimensions: 17.5 x 11.9 x 6.3 inches (W x H x D)". In fact this printer is neither.
The correct dimensions are 17.5 x 6.3 x 11.9 (width x height x depth). So it's about a foot and a half wide, six inches high, and a foot deep.
Great Printer July 28, 2008 I love this printer. I printed a vacation photo on glossy 5x7 paper and could not tell the difference between it and a professionally processed photo.
Good product at a great price. Thanks July 28, 2008 We have had such bad luck with our old brand of printers that we have been really pleased with this product. The print quality is excellent and works for all our needs.
Above average printer, but missing tray for CD/DVD printing July 25, 2008 Ok, so this is a nice printer. My biggest beef is that it doesn't come with a tray to print CDs and DVDs which is why I purchased the printer in the first place. It was another $22.50 through a reseller on eBay.
Someone mentioned that the earlier versions of the ip4500 had the tray included, but in recent shipments Canon had left this item out in USA bound printers. Something about licensing issues with Epson.
Whatever the reason, it's a slight pain, but for the total price, well worth the effort.
It works okay..... July 21, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this to replace a workhorse Canon that I had. The old one had the same basic casing/tray, was cheap, and worked great. This printer is on the higher end in price, and functionally I'd rather have my old one. First of all, it has an added black ink for what I suspect is improved photo printing. This would be nice if the printer used that one (or allowed me to switch to it) when the main black cartridge became empty, but I'm also concerned that it will dry up since I don't do much photo printing. It is still completely full. The other colors get used enough printing web pages. This printer is also very slow to start up.
Finally, I am not happy with how it opens up. This really is my main gripe. They upgraded an old model using pretty much the same number of parts and they made it worse. On my old model the front facing used to click open and click shut with a push. On the new model, to open it you have to lift the top up and pull the front facing out. Adding paper to the paper tray is now a pain in the rear, and keeping the front closed when I am not printing isn't worth the effort. Also, I can't leave stuff on top of the printer anymore. Then the paper tray itself is virtually identical to the old one except the plastic piece that covers over the exposed part no longer fits in as easily. The quality is the same, but.
Also after 4 months, the part that moves the ink chamber up a little is wobbly and needs to be held in sometimes for the printer to print (easy fix with tape if it becomes a real problem).
