4 out of 5 stars Nice Bag - Not Perfect   November 28, 2008
LeoinSA (San Antonio)
Here's the problem - I've got a nice digital SLR camera and lenses. Too many lenses if you listen to my wife! I can't check the camera gear in its backpack - bye-bye to all that gear. I've got the obligatory laptop and paraphernalia. With the carry-on restrictions, the question became how to get the camera, a couple lenses and the laptop into one carry-on bag?

This Tenba has the necessary spots for the camera and laptop, but once packed full of that there's little room for other airplane and personal 'stuff'. That said, the bag easily fits under the seat into the space provided with the laptop, camera and 3 lenses.

In my old laptop bag, I had room for the computer, work files and note pads, a couple of magazines and maybe a hard cover book along with all my medication containers, my iPod and a bottle of $4 water bought after the security checkpoint.

Not so in this Tenba bag. All the meds bottles (minus a couple days doses) went into the checked bag along with some other 'stuff' that formerly had been toted in the laptop bag.

I did get the laptop and camera gear into the Tenba to take pictures of the grand kids and write this review, but the bottom line is that this is the best compromise of 4 bags that I've tried over the past 3 years. I'll keep looking for something a bit better.

4 out of 5 stars GOOD WALK AROUND BAG   November 14, 2008
proform
pros: good walk around bag
comfortable on the shoulder
well paded
can accomodate 70-200l 2.8 is, camera with grip 24-70 mounted(but little tight with grip on)
cons: hard to fit pc notebook when battery grip is on and with an extra zoom lens.

i use it all the time but without my notebook d/t space.might work better if you have a thin laptop like a mac.

5 out of 5 stars A terrific multi-use bag   November 10, 2008
RonAnnArbor (Ann Arbor, MI United States)
I have to say right off the bat, I am a bag-addict...I search for the right bags, and have several of them because I find there is no single bag that fits all my needs all the time. This bag is similar, but what it does, it does really well.

I use it for trips in which I need my dSLR and my laptop. as well as other travel items. I don't use it as a day to day bag. I carry in it my NIkon D90 with 17-55 lens attached, a zoom lens, a rocket blower, and my Canon G9 and both camera chargers in the removable camera section. It's large enough to have even one more compartment if I want to throw in an extra lens, or other small item. I also pack in my Macbook Air. It all seems safe and cozy.

This is a bag designed for urban explorers, not outback explorers. It does what it says and it does so perfectly. It would not be suitable for someone who does a lot of physical activity while carrying their gear along. You need something better padded for that. This is the PERFECT bag for your trip to Walt Disney World. It is completely unsuitable for a trip on a Pink Jeep tour in Sedona.

THere are so many pockets they easily swallow up your cellphone and charger, laptop charger, travel adapters, tickets, passports, magazines, paperback....and still nothing feels to bulky, like other bags can do.

I have to admit that on several occasions, I have taken out the camera insert and used it in a different backpack -- but that's what is great about Tenba interchangeable parts!...

By comparison purposes, I have to state that Timbuk2 bags are my absolute favorite when it comes to messenger bags -- this Tenba bag has actually more usablity-factor than my beloved Timbuk2, although it doesn't look as cool.

HIghly recommended bag for someone who has to take everything with them. It proves that yes, you CAN take it with you.

4 out of 5 stars Great Bag!   November 2, 2008

Highly functional and comfortable messenger. Doubles nicely as both a portfolio and camera bag. Most functional capability are the multiple compartment access points.

4 out of 5 stars Tenba Large Messenger   October 9, 2008
Greg Milligan
I have used this bag for a few months now and am impressed. I carry a Canon 20D with all-purpose lens, Zoom lense, and a macro lens along with a 15" laptop. The bag handles all of this well, however like some other posts have noted, that's about all it can handle. I would never put my lenses in the bag without the padding, but it takes up a ton of space.

The build quality is good, the strap is comfortable, it is stylish enough, and the lens padding is easy to remove if you are using the bag for something else.

Highly recommend for those that are looking for a messenger-type camera bag.
