5 out of 5 stars Amazing! A Very Educatonal Treasure for the Whole Family.   June 21, 2008

I am currently a honors student about to go to 9th grade. Since it was summer, I decided to purchase this software to review 9th grade materials such as algebra and geometry, biology, and social studies. When the product arrived in mint condition, I hurriedly opened it to see what it was like. There were three DVDS; one for english and math, the second for social studies, and the third for science(no wonder the box felt a little heavy for software!).
There are many great features for this program, the best being that no installation is required! I'll label them into different sections and rate them.
MATH:Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus(5/5)
This was one of my favorite part of the learning system. Instead of a program that has bulky notes, it is set up as a one on one classroom with a teacher(or professor) and a student. The voices are excellent(I love the professor's voice in Calculus and Trigonometry!), animations are first class, and the explanations are easy to understand. The program also includes an eBook called Rapid Calculation Method with tips and tricks on calculation math fast, and also comes with printable tests. The one problem I had with this software was that there was not many explanations.
ENGLISH: World Literature, American Literature, English Literature(4/5)
Don't expect to see anything about grammar, spelling, vocabulary, or punctuation in the English program. Instead, it covers the lives of famous authors. The information is presented with a video, and afterwords, you can take a quiz to moniter your progress. If you need help with your summer reading books, this program also contains Barron's Book Notes that cover themes, characters, and plot synopses of books such as Animal Farm.
HISTORY: U.S. and World History, History through Art(5/5)
The program was just like the English program. It had videos and quizzes. The information was placed in a very concise order, and also covered artistic styles, making the program quite enjoyable.
SCIENCE: What is Science?, PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY, BIOLOGY, EARTH SCIENCE, BIOCHEMISTRY, LIFE SCIENCE, ASTRONOMY(5/5)
Wow. I'm amazed at the visual and compelling graphics of this program. It clearly details frustrating topics so that it is easier to understand them, and it comes with printable tests and answer sheets that also give an explanation to why and answer choice is right or wrong.
PROGRAM RATING:19/20, or 95%.
FINAL OPINION: This software is a very valuable asset to use for major tests such as the ACT or SAT. It helps you understand high school topics by providing notes and printable tests. Even if you know these concepts, you should purchase this to challenge yourself, as this software is more advanced than other softwares such as High School Advantage.

Daughter complained that more examples were needed on the math part. She really likes the art and English part. Thank you. Lisa

I came across both the Middle and High School Learning Systems at Big Lots for $6.00 each! I am really impressed with the subject matter and how it is being presented. It is worth the $20+ dollars!

5 out of 5 stars Learn Anew or Review   June 9, 2007

I'm reviewing studies before going back for higher education, and learning some more, too, and my daughter is sort of bored with school work as a lot of it doesn't challenge her. As I struggle to find a way to maintain the family I have limited time to help coordinate our efforts and this makes fun learning for a serious goal easier. My daughter poor thing is about to enter 6th, in second she was already doing 6th grade math and 10.6 in things like science on the SAT, but at school she had to practice her hand writing and remember to use Shirley Temple as a role model for patience. Now she's going to still have 3 years of algebra in middle school and there's no way I can homeschool as a single mom, so we do what we can. Since we're good at that, it's making being a "Smile for Hire" at McDonald's a cinch, but we really want to prepare to work with the space program one day. Maybe we should start a Amazon.com business or something. (=o())

I am 30 years old and have been out of school for many years now. I work a job that is not mentally stimulating in the least and sometimes my brain feels as if it's on autopilot. I bought this software as a refresher course on literature and science, as I've forgotten much of what I learned. I am very amazed at its quality. I believe easily that I could have not attended elementary through high school and merely studied using this software and learned much more than I did. The readings are done by great actors with good voice inflection and the music and visuals enhance your learning. The quizzes are great to review and help lodge the content of the lessons into your mind. My nephew is 8 years old and is homeschooled. He uses many resources like this one in his education process are is already testing at high school level. So regardless of your age or learning ability, this is a great buy. I also plan on getting the entire learning system which includes elementary and middle to review geography and such.
