This album was recorded in the wake of the United States Navy Band's 80th anniversary. The selections on Live were gathered from Country Current's 2003 Fall Tour through North and South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. The entire album is a compilation of new, original and traditional country and bluegrass tunes. The United States Navy Band's "Country Current" country-bluegrass group is the Navy's premier country music ensemble. Commander Ned Muffley formed the seven-member group in 1973 under the leadership of legendary banjo player Bill Emerson. Over the years, "Country Current" has established themselves in all aspects of country and bluegrass music. The album seeks to preserve some of America's favorites, including songs like "American Child", "Miles and Miles of Texas" and "Take It Easy", all recorded Live. The extraordinary talents of the members of "Country Current" are evident throughout this album and continue to set the standard for the group even today.
