Blind Man's Bluff January 7, 2008 S. Hall 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The book arrived very quickly and was in excellent condition. It was exactly as I expected it to be.
Blind Man's Bluff November 19, 2007 William A. Luckey II (Dallas, TX) Sherry Sontag provides solid research for a riviting historical account of the birth and life of submarines. The machinations of politics and genius combine to create an entertaining read.
Exciting read! November 14, 2007 John M. Melancon (New Orleans, LA) I was first turned on to the submarine cold war stories by an old buddy of mine that did that kind of crazy stuff in the 80's. He wouldn't budge a bit on anything that happened except "All I can say is that I was on the USS Parche" in the 80's. I googled USS Parche and this book showed up. WOW. It was crazy some of the stuff Uncle Sam was doing back then and how Naval Intelligence and the CIA was able control the cold war with some of their espionage tactics. I can now go back to my old Navy buddy and tell him some of the things he did when he was in the Navy. Not that he would confirm or deny them (lol). The writers didn't fill the book with ANY fluff...it's a great read, and all facts. I hate to quote a cliche, but I really couldn't put this book down. Now, I am even more intrigued by the cold war, and plan to read some more books about this very edgy time in our history. I highly recommend this book.
Super Book October 29, 2007 Maureen C. Inman 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Very interesting information on what our submarine service was up against and how they handled situations. A good read!
Blind Man's Bluff October 2, 2007 Back Country Geezer (California) I worked alongside the members of the submarine service and can testify that their deeds were harrowing, critical to national security, and seldom appreciated. I applaud the authors (despite a little downplaying of the true nature of the HORSE COW Bar in Vallejo, California) for their tenacity in digging out the truth, their wisdom in choosing to leave out some interesting stories they doubtless heard, and their honesty in portraying the whispered role of the "silent service". My heartfelt thanks to all concerned! G. L. Spears
