This book is nothing like what I was expecting. As a New Army Wife I can only hope and Pray that things are not as bad as the author says.I feel like I wasted my money, what a Disappointment.

1 out of 5 stars Please don't waste your money   January 13, 2006

There is not much I can say that the other reviewers did'nt already say. Please don't waste your money, The Military Life is NOT nearly as bad as the Writer lets on. Yes, you run into some problems along the way but that comes with anything not just Military Life. It's all about How you deal with what you are given.

1 out of 5 stars Just really, really bad   January 8, 2006

I've been doing research for a work-related project on military families for a few years and haven't come across this book until recently. I picked it up and thumbed through it and was immediately put off by the tone and the haphazard organization. I decided that I would read it cover to cover, however, because it is one of only a few such books on the market. I couldn't finish it. I've been a military wife for ten years and I have heard some whining, most of it justified. I've never known anyone who could fill a whole book with their whining and ranting and raving, though. The situations that Ms. Martin describes are certainly not universal as in my ten years as a military wife I have never encountered most of those described in the book. It is also my experience that most people are not as negative as the author and are not nearly as mean-spirited. I despise the condescending, know-it-all tone she used throughout the book and the fact that she spoke as the voice of ALL experience military wives. Baloney. It was crystal clear to me that she hadn't been a military wife very long.

Content aside, the book is self-published and therefore essentially unedited. No quality control was exercised to save the reader from typos, comma splices, and just plain inexcusably bad grammar.

If you want to read one very whiny person's view on military life, then this is the book for you. Otherwise, don't waste your money or the time it will take you to lift this book off the library shelf.

1 out of 5 stars What a Sad Jaded Girl Hilary Must be   December 23, 2005

After Reading the review below, I decided to check out this Support Site. I in fact did see that it will be a Paid board as of the new year. In her announcement to the site, she was very rude and stated that it only cost a "measly" 24 Dollars a year.I'm sure that makes those wives of lower ranking husbands feel great reading that, if they cant in fact afford those measly $24 dollars from their small paycheck. I was willing to give miss Hilary a chance but after seeing all the information, I have to say that It appears she is only here to make money off of us.
Seriously like many others have stated, this book is simply the diary of a sad jaded girl. This Book would scare anyone off. With the bad attitude Hilary displays it's no wonder she has had these experiences. The book offers no real useful information, if you are new to the Military Life please don't believe the lies in this book. There are many useful books out there, Beware of this one.
Also getting discharged from Bootcamp hardly qualifies as Military experience.
This Book does not even deserve 1 Star, like stated by the reviewer below me, DO NOT SUPPORT SOMEONE WHO DOES NOT SUPPORT US!

1 out of 5 stars Waste of Money!   December 21, 2005

The only Good reviews came from the Author's "Friends" from her little website, I know this because I use to be a member there. This book is nothing more than Hilary whining! She does not care about Us Military wives. She is in this for the Money, she is also turning her "support" board into a Paid only board because it is a "hobby" of hers and is tired of paying out of her pocket for "Our" Socializing Needs. Do not support someone who does NOT support Us. Hilary's book offers No useful information at all. If your looking for a Good Book, try Married To the Military.
