Amazing System September 17, 2008 Luke Pederson My roomate freshman year had this system and it may be a bit expensive, but it is well worth it. The controls are very easy to use and adjust to the preferences of the listener. Sound quality is great and the system has no problems when "cranked up". We quite literally shook the entire dorm building with the sub at around 70%. At the other end of the building (~80ft away) people were complining that stuff was falling off of shelves. If you live in an apartment or close to neighbors, this system's capabilities may be too tempting and get you in trouble. Also, even at high volume there is very little to no noise in the speaker output. Basically the building might shake with the sub on but you wont hear any "buzzing" from the sub. Overall, If you dont mind the price or getting noise violations, this is a great system.
Great System, Minimal Flaw September 15, 2008 Stephen Burgio Jr. (Philly) This system is currently Logitech's most expensive and, IMHO, best product. With multiple inputs and customizable outputs, it's perfect for most mid size rooms and computer systems. It works best with a descent computer sound card that have either optical or coax. out. I personally prefer optical but they are nearly equivalent. There is only one issue I have with this system. The sub takes slightly longer to keep up with a raise or lowering in volume. I.E.- if you have a high bass song on and suddenly turn the volume down to nothing, it takes the bass about a full second to catch up to this low volume and you will still her the bass during that period. Other that that, I have no gripes with the system itself. I would highly recommend the Logitech Z-5500.
Hope you don't mind wires everywhere September 14, 2008 Matthew T. Dragon (In the middle somewhere) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this product with the expectation (wrongly) that the control center would in fact control. The control center is in fact a simple input device that connects and the sub woofer connects everything (unlike a traditional speaker system). The wiring scheme you are stuck with is running your input to the control system which then has a SHORT serial cable that runs to the sub woofer (sorry, can't use the woofer without the control system). THEN you get to run speaker wire from the woofer to all your speakers. Had a I known this, I would not have purchased this item. I have kids and this is NOT good for a family room because the wires can't be hidden (unless you plan on somehow putting the subwoofer in a cabinet! If you are trying to use this for your home theater, avoid at all costs.
Impressive September 13, 2008 Nichoas B. Gwozdz The optical sound is amazing. Would have gotten five stars if there was more than one optical input.
Logitech Z-5500 Speakers Kick Butt September 13, 2008 O. C. Gregg (ATLANTIC BEACH, FL USA) I am very much impressed with the quality of the sound and the flexibility of the components. The price is, quite simply, about a fourth of what I would have guessed, were I to have simply looked at the entire system. My wife is happy that I can now listen to my extensive CD collection in the computer room while I'm doing e-mail and Photoshop tasks.
